GDT - Game #43:  Red Wings host Coyotes (7:30)

DET (26-15-1) should be damn happy to be home after a four game road trip to open 2012, playing the last three of those in four nights (and it was evident in the 5-1 beatdown at NYI).  In the last three games (1-2), the Wings have fallen behind 4-0, 2-0 and 3-0 and have not held a lead in regulationAfter the NYI game, Babcock said:  “If you go back to our last four games, starting with the Dallas game (5-4 win on Jan. 3), we gave up way too many opportunities—off rushes, off turnovers, poor decisions.  You can’t win like that. Well, you can win once in a while, but you can’t be a good team.” Believing the team physically or mentally tired, Babcock further stated:  “But that’s what we looked like, that’s what I’m going with.  We’ll give them a day off (Wednesday) and get freshened up, and that puts the onus back on them. We have to play harder than that.”

Generating offense is the ‘Dog’s biggest problem, they have scored two goals or fewer in 11 of the last 16 games. Phoenix ranks 24th in the NHL with 2.49 goals per contest, and 29th on the PP at 13.1%.  The Wings will likely help them with their PP issues.

Now, for the good news, DET have won 12 in a row at home, two short of the franchise record set in 1964-65. It has been more than two months since they lost at the Joe.

The USS Carl Vinson has arrived in the Arabian Sea to conduct missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Godspeed Chief, Anchors Aweigh.

Detroit, MI…The Detroit Red Wings today announced that 23-year-old forward Jan Mursak has been recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL).  A native of Maribor, Slovenia, Mursak was originally selected by Detroit in the sixth round (182nd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. The 5’11”, 190-lb. winger has appeared in 19 games with the Red Wings (1G-0A-1P) and 190 games with the Griffins (39G-48A-87P) thus far in his professional career.

Keep your head down and your stick on the ice Master Chief.

Great to hear Mursak back with the big club. I felt so bad for him when I saw that picture of him in the FP trying to get up off the ice when he was injured on a dirty hit in my book.

You Michaganders be careful today getting about.  Looks like it will be nasty weather today.

Hopfully will keep the streak goin tonight with or without Pavs.

Have a good one 19 and thanks for the GDT Okie.

The USS Carl Vinson has arrived in the Arabian Sea to conduct missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Godspeed Chief, Anchors Aweigh.

This is the kind of news that makes everything else insignificant. The Wings are nothing more than a distraction for us and our beloved Master Chief.

Godspeed, Chief, to you and your brothers in arms.

I have the highest regard for you Jeff, and, your son. Godspeed to Rambo.

You know, the GDT is one of the best ways to distract and brighten our day. Even though the Damn Wings have sucked so bad at times.

Thanks OAkie.

Thank you Kate.

Jeff Jr. should be home from Afghanistan in late March.

Rambo is seriously considering joining his big brother in the OK Natl. Guard.

I agree with you, that news of Chief’s assignment (and Jeff Jr.) puts a realistic perspective on things - the Wings are, generally, a pleasant distraction.

Wonder if the Emperor’s post means that Datsyuk is still on the shelf?

Okie. I didn’t mean to slight you with Jeff Jr’s service in Afganistan. That and the Persian gulf are the hot spots in the world now. I wish nothing but the best for him, the Master Chief and all families involved in this ongoing war. God bless you all. Hockey is a wonderful diversion temporarily from life’s problems.

Said coach Mike Babcock of Datsyuk’s status: “I don’t know for sure, we’re going to make a game-time decision.’‘

Babcock said Mursak’s status for tonight’s game will not only depend on Datsyuk’s availability, but also there are a couple of other players who are banged up and will be game-time decisions.

May have been discussed, but I wonder what the possibility is that Datsyuk’s groin injury had something to do with $.20 slashing his sack repeatedly at the end of the game?

I’d like to say something sincere and heartfelt regarding Chief, Rambo and all the others but Kate and other members of the 19 have already beaten me to it.  I can only add God bless and may he keep you all safe.

As to the U. S. Navy pic, I’m not sure which guy is more disturbing…. front row, right to left… #1, #4 or #6.  And maybe because the picture’s not clear but #7 looks like his chest is sporting wood.

I tend to think since Pavs is listed as day to day, the injury is a direct result of the 20cent Nutcracker.

Here is an interesting bit:

The Coyotes have killed off 92.0 percent (23-of-25) of their opponents’ power-play opportunities since December 20—third best in the league since that date.

The Wings could use some film study of the Dog’s PK.

And thanks Rumbear.

Thanks, Okie, and I am with the 19 in honoring the Master Chief, Rambo and the others who are doing things that really matter while we stress ourselves out over hockey (Oh, Wingaholism…).

Too bad the injury bug is causing line up changes as, for awhile there, we had lines that were really playing well.  *sigh*

Hoping the guys can keep the at home winning streak going.

Don’t know if I’ll be in the LB - still sick.
