GDT - Game #40: Red Wings at Leafs (7:00)

It is time for the Wings (25-13-1) annual father/son trip with an Original Six weekend slate, tonight at TOR (20-15-5) and tomorrow night at CHI (24-13-4). The Wings sit one point out of the Central Division lead (with STL), with two games in hand on CHI. To gain ground, DET are going to have to find a way to muster a road winning streak. The Wings are 10-11 on the road. Jimmy F. Howard has alternated wins and loses in his last 8 road games, but that is the only blemish on his stellar season. Howard has won won 20 of his last 26 games, and has earned 49 of the 68 available points in games he has played in, a whopping 72%. Another interesting note, of the Red Wings skaters appearing in more than five games only one is a minus player, Niklas Kronwall -1.
The Leafs are riding a three game home win streak, and will start Jonas Gustavsson tonight in net, 2-0-0, 1.51, .938 in his last 2 games. The Leaf PK is even worse than DET’s, 73.4% is dead last in the league.
LGRW and good luck Lions.

Thanks, Jeff. Good to see the GDT after nearly three eons ago (Thanks, Gary.Ass).
Nyquist-Emmerton-Conner
Speed. Lots and lots of speed on that line. I thought C64 played real well in the games he was in. Really would’ve liked to see Yak and C64 paired up for once like a couple of people have said. But that’s why I don’t coach the Wings and Uncle Mike does…and he’s waaay better than any of us at it.

Thanks Oakie!
I’ll be flipping channel on this one. Gotta watch them Lions! It’s their first time in the playoffs since Fred & Wilma bought that place in Bedrock…...
They are fired up over here. http://waynefontes.com/

These games make me nervous, my canadian wife is a leafs fan, and for some reason the wings have struggled with them in past years. One of us is going to be in a bad mood tonight. No good can come from this…

This is not going to go well.
Oh there’s a huge pileup in the VAN/BOS game just 3:54 into the game. Usual suspects, Burrows, Bieska, Lucic, Chara, etc. trading fist sandwiches.

Like I just said on George’s blog, seems to me the Wings need to win these next two games for:
Pride.
Points.
Papas.
Can’t wait to see that Nyquist/Emmerton/Conner line. Gives me shivers.
Hope the Wings play their @sses off tonight and tomorrow night!

Vancouver’s win today means Detroit can’t catch the Canucks with one win, but winning tonight will still put the Wings on top of their division and second in the conference.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. Detroit is one point behind Chicago and two behind Vancouver with two games in hand on both.
Time to make some hay.
