After getting taken to the whipping post by the Blues on opening night, 6-0, DET will be looking for a much better effort. The Wings aren't alone though, STL are crushing it right now, and it is easy to see why: 3.86 G/G (3), 2.00 GA/G (3), 2.33 5-5 F/A (2), 34.6%PP (2), and 20.3 SA/G (1).
Babcock said of the opening game: "We weren't very competitive," Babcock said. "Now we have an opportunity to evaluate ourselves six games later and see where we're at.." The times, they are a changing; it used to be that the Wings were the measuring stick.

Friday night, got a 2 liter of coke chillin’ in the fridge, pizza joint on speed dial and its the Blues vs. Wings. Doesn’t get much better than that on a frozen 1st day of February.
GAME ON!

Substitute coke with either Irish whiskey neat or a growler of good craft beer and you’re golden.

thanks, Okie.
Game On(!), indeed.
Time to right the wrong of opening night, eh?

This should be quite a matchup. I’ve been impressed with the Bloose over the past few years. They’ve made good moves and become a very competitive team drafting well and trading well. Now let’s watch the wings beat up on them and remind them of their proper place in the division.
The coke and pizza sounds about perfect. I think all I have in my fridge is a tub of guacamole and about four kinds of mustard.
Posted by redxblack from Akron Ohio on 02/01/13 at 09:59 AM ET
Recalling just how u.g.l.y. the 6-0 beatdown was:
The Blues scored four times on the power play and once shorthanded. Three of their goals were on breakaways. . . Said Babcock: “I didn’t think we were very competitive in that game.”
Me neither - but DET are improving.

Time to see if the last 3 games are really in improvement. The guys need to on their big boy pants and at least make it look like there’s some level of give a $hit tonight.

I’ve noticed that all those complaints about the contract that Kenny gave Ericsson have disappeared.
Posted by HockeyTownTodd on 02/01/13 at 07:12 AM ET
That’s because he used to be compared to Lidstrom, Rafalski, and Stuart. Now he’s being compared to Quincey, Kindl, and Coliacovo.
I never thought $3M was over the top anyway, when is that 3 years over?

At 12 of 14 possible points the Blues are second in the Division.
Hold onto your Stroh’s.

I think the Blues are the best team in the NHL right now. Talk about a measuring stick.
Please, don’t give Taresenko any room in the neutral or offensive zones. He’s a game-breaker if he gets space to maneuver.

Still hedging on the Center Ice package. As badly as I do not want to contribute one red cent to the NHL, my desire to watch The Red Wings is stronger. I will most likely fold. I have been a subscriber since its inception.
The way I look at it is, it’s entertainment on the very cheap. My better half and I are at home a lot and, usually have the Grandson. Plus we are both hitting the Sixth Decade. He already has(Jan.30th) I’m ten months away(Oct.30th) so staying home is more the rule rather than the exception now.
It’s getting very Cosmic Dusty around here.Bitches.
Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

Good on your, Kate, do what you must to. Just fine going into the 6th decade. My dad has a few years to go.. But I swear, that man is the coolest ever. Give in and enjoy the game you love. You only have one life, right? Enjoy it.
Thanks Okie. As always.. superb.
Pizza and Beer? I had enough pizza this week. However, I can do Lasagna and Beer.

Ah, so nice to see Jeff’s GDT once again after a month long trip in the Philippines. Yes, I miss my Wings hockey like an Irish drunk and his Guinness. Thanks, Jeff. Much, much appreciated.
Just looking at the Wings in the standings is enough to make me barf, but I finally get a chance to see them play tonight. I’ll be catching up to the previous LBs as much as I can just so I can get a feel for this team with where they’re at now. A 0-6 loss on opening night to the B’Lose? Unacceptable.

LOL, Jeff. The endless streams of Jollibee’s fried chicken shops and questionable BBQ pork (or chicken? I’m not sure anymore. It just gave me hard poop that took four stool softeners to get to move out of my intestines.) on sticks seem more and more palatable after reading the opening night LB. Yech…
