How important are those early losses to the Blue Jackets when they were sucking?

Critical.  We may have already been dead, but just didn’t know it.

Thanks…needed one more thing to stress upon

looks to me like that was a combination of two things: intentional elbowing and P’ville lowering his head.  Brown wasn’t looking, his elbow was high because it was part of the high hand on the stick he was playing the puck with.  but as the hit came, he moved his body toward the hit, elbow first.  if P’ville hadn’t lowered his head it still would have been elbowing - just not to the head.

Two games for Brown.  Pierre must be re-writing his script as we sit here, as his opportunity to fawn over Brown tonight is out the window.

In the video it looks clear to me anyway that he definitely took a lunge with his elbow up in the opposite direction of the movement of the puck.  It was from a standstill however it sure does not look like an accident.

Posted by BC on 04/24/13 at 03:37 PM ET

PaulinMiamiBeach's avatar

question…does Brown, in that situation, have the responsibility of keeping his elbow down - kind of like how even accidental high-sticking is a penalty?  because in the context of high-sticking, if it’s in the follow through or act of shooting then it is NOT a penalty.  is any consideration generally made for elbowing and other body contact when it is in the act of playing the puck?

We HAVE to win the next 3. Nothing less is acceptable.
I want the Wings to charge into the playoffs with confidence and swagger, not depending on any help from other teams losing.

No backing into the playoffs, like little bitches.

Thanks OKie.

Bitches.

Down goes Brown, for 2 games.

Interestingly, Kerry Fraser (he of the retired zebra) thought otherwise.

Brown’s got a responsibility to keep that elbow anywhere but in Pominvilles face.

Like the Bertuzzi elbow last year or year before.  Such a soft unintentional elbow, still an elbow.  Didn’t do any damage and wasn’t principle point of contact.  FF to Brown’s hit, and both happened as well.

Brown’s a dirty player as much as Richards and Backes, they routinely get away with murder solely for the fact you can’t have a 60min PP.  And Brown, for as tough as he is, has a hard time staying on his skates after contact, so it blows my mind he decided to Steven Segal JPom in his grill.

+19 to one shift at a time.  Like Pav says, “take care of today and tomorrow will take care of itself”

take care of each shift and the game will take care of itself, easy peasy japaneasy.

I managed to stay off The Hasek for a couple of hours.  So Brown the LA captain will miss the final 2 games as they try to capture Home Ice from San Jose?

Looked like he lunged and lead with his elbow.  Not the first time he’s been noted for going over the edge being physical.

The 8th seed Kings proved that last season.

what the 8th seed Kings actually proved is that a team can improve over the course of a season and be a lot better than their 8th seed shows - as their early season performance weighed them down in the standings.

the Wings are performing WORSE lately than much of the season.

no, it was in the act of protecting him from oncoming contact.  is that illegal now?

You’re right.  When throwing an elbow up in someone’s face it is pretty much impossible not to throw your elbow up in someone’s face.

Fraser’s “explanation” is a joke, considering that Brown doesn’t actually play the puck and in fact chose to throw his elbow up instead of playing the puck.  All you have to do is watch the video to see that Pominville is the only one of them who makes a play for the puck.

It is when your method of “protection” is to aim your elbow at an oncoming player’s face.

In fact, it’s two-game-suspension illegal.

Posted by Garth on 04/24/13 at 04:34 PM ET

PaulinMiamiBeach's avatar

Garth, the only reason it was his FACE is because P’ville lowered his face.  Brown’s elbow was already up as a function of playing the puck, and the required arm position to do so.

you might want to watch it again, considering he DID play the puck.  maybe this angle will help you.

Garth, so if I lower my face and smash into you, therefore causing your shoulder or arm to hit my face, YOU should get a penalty?  seriously?

so you think a player should be penalized for checking from behind even when the opposing player turns his back just before the hit?

I can’t believe I’m agreeing with Garth but yeah, I don’t see how you can look at the video and not see him put an elbow directly into his face. He didn’t lower his face anymore than Brown plunged his elbow directly into it.
