The Wings (1-1) home-opener tonight against the Stars (1-1). Detroit desperately needed a win at CBJ last night, and got it in dramatic fashion. From the drop of the puck and Tootoo's gloves, DET got off to a spirited start and a 2 goal lead. Then special teams woes and piss poor defense found CBJ tallying three unanswered goals to take the lead late in the 3rd. But outstanding effort by Zetterberg along the boards, and a great pass by a driving Kronwall, led to a tap-in goal by Datsyuk to tie the game. Brunner's specatacular shoot-out goal wins it for the Wings.
But special teams play are killing the Wings. DET have allowed six power-play goals in two games, given up a short-hander, and are o-fer on the PP (I didn't have enough time to look up the tries). Last night DET's PP looked dangerous at least once - - the others were momentum killers.
And don't think you are the only one noticing the Wings blueline issues, DET have allowed four breakaway goals in two games. Even Khan(!) is taking note of the painfully obvious: Quincey, in particular, must play better. Lashoff did play quite well in his debut. Fredo got hurt - again.
Wings fan should take heart at their effort last night, but also realize it is going to be a struggle this season.

“Great game out of Lashoff. I thought he was incredible,’’ coach Mike Babcock said. “Actually, I thought he was better here than in the American League, maybe because the game’s more organized. But he made good decisions.
“He’s a big man (6-3, 208), he showed good hands, was great on the penalty kill—four-on-three penalty with him, Pav (Datsyuk) and (Henrik Zetterberg) on it, he did a heck of a job.
Babcock liked the poise Lashoff displayed.
“He just settled in and played,’’ Babcock said. “You got to feel pretty good about yourself

Lashoff might have bought a ticket to the big show. Quincey ought to be nervous. Seriously, that guy is awful.
It pains me to see the wings essentially on par with COLUMBUS. The rusty winged wheel needs to get its shit together.

Detroit Red Wings: The team has promised a nonstop series of giveaways that will start on opening night and last all season long, although come to think of it they may have been referring to their new blueline.

Solid debut for Lashoff, and yeah, he might get a few games to make himself awfully hard to dislodge. Q’s playing like crap (again) and while White’s off to a good start, he was bad at times last year too. I’m not sure the team likes Kindl enough anymore to not drop him if they need to.
The future looks bright; if only they can get through this season. I’d take an 8th seed just to keep the playoff streak alive.
BTW, does anyone understand why Smith hasn’t been getting PP time? Kronwall and White I get, but I couldn’t figure out why Fredo/Mr. Glass was out there.

Quincey is absolutely painful to watch play, he shouldn’t be nervous he outta be packing his bags. He’s got zero upside whatsoever.
This idea of defense by committee won’t work wuith subpar “talent” like Q.

Kindl, Bert and Helm, all hard at it for the morning skate. #RedWings
Holland bringing a veteran D man, and wants him for the game tonight?

Sammy, E-52, Fredo, Kindl, Bert, Helm - - - all out tonight.
According to Red Wings Twitter, they have in fact signed someone - - but they arent saying who.

Lashoff was stunner and I noticed he was out with Z and Pav at the game on the 4 on 3, I was commenting how crazy it was for a rookie’s first NHL game to be there. Noticed him and Smith all night.
Also noticed Patrick Eaves. Didn’t look like he lost a step at all. He was battling hard in corners and finishing his checks. Awesome, awesome to see him playing again.
Leave Lashoff up, waive Kindl. Lashoff’s plenty big and reliable to play in the NHL, even Cheli thinks so. Kindl would be much better served by playing time on another club whether in the NHL or in the AHL but he’s not getting any better as a 7th D-man and we’re not quite as safe with him there either.
I’m so excited to hear who this mystery D-man is KH is after.. but I know I’ll be disapointed.

Sammy down now too huh? Groin wasn’t as good as he thought?
Damn, that’s a whole line out, Helm, Bert, Sammy.
So we’ll get P-Z-B, Fran-Flip-Clears, Tootoo-Abby-Eaves, Miller-Emmerton-Mursak?

This mean a F call-up from GR?

Nyquist recalled from GR, playing with Fil and Franzen tonight. Samuelsson (groin) out
A bit of good news. Samuelsson’s mediocrity has been kind of lost in the suckage that is Quincey.

No confirmation, but these seem the probable lines:
Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Brunner
Franzen-Filppula-Nyquist
Eaves-Gator-Cleary
Miller-Emmerton-Tootoo
Kronwall-Lashoff
Quincey-Smith
White-Huskins
McCollum backing up Jimmah
Man - - Holland should seriously buy-out Q after E-52, and Yak are ready.

Thanks Okie!
“Sammy pulls groin while facing BJ’s” <snort>
So who has the 411 on this Huskins chap? Where has he been hiding?

We got Gus! We got Gus! We got Gus!
Agree with all the comments about Lashoff. He played extremely well and confidently. I figured Uncle Mike was pleased when I saw him out on the 4 on 3. Great job.
Ian White’s goal was sweet.
And Brunner’s shoot out goal! Wow. Just wow. Hope that gets him going confidence-wise.
I like the top 2 “probable” lines - a lot. When Helm comes back, I’d like to see the old Miller/Helm/Eaves line reunited. (Wonderful to see Eaves back and playing well right away). Then put Cleary with Gator and Bert for a 4th line.
I have to say I agree that Quincey is pretty worthless and so is Sammy (and I used to like Sammy and was glad he was coming back - geez.)
And Fredo… he’s had an injury-plagued career, right? When I saw him take that puck to the face in the first game, I thought: it won’t be long and he’ll be hurt and out of the line up. Hope I didn’t curse him…
I know nothing about this Huskins guy.
Can’t believe these guys have to play again tonight. And no real backup for Jimmah. Poor Jimmah - it’s been that way for him all along.
And yes, the future looks good. Even Pee-Air was going on and on about all the great young players the Wings have in the pipeline. He said; “The Red Wings will be back. And sooner than a lot of people think.”
LET’S GO RED WINGS !!!!!

I wouldn’t mind Cleary replacing Franzen permanently on the first PP unit. Creates even more of a dropoff in expectation of the second unit, but for cripe’s sakes: as slow as he has looked in the first two games at least Cleary will get in the crease area where Franzen seems to think his role is to skate up to the goalie after the save and deliver a death stare. Honestly, with the size and skills this guy has, what is it going to take for him to “want it”?

A stunning assessment. What about Fredo? Two injuries in two games isn’t hot?
