GDT - Game 24: Red Wings (11-8-4) host Oilers (8-9-5) 7:30

The schedule isn't kind to the Wings during the Ides of March.  After tonights tilt with the Oil, DET have a home-and-home with the BJ's, then the knives come out.  The Wings have a 3 game Western Canada swing (CGY, EDM, VAN), then home for 1 game against MIN, then at ANA (two consecutive?), PHX and SJS.  For us pharmacists that is 3 at JLA (counting tonight) and 8 on the road.

The Western Conference standings are tight as can be:

4  LAK  26
5  SJS  26
6  DET  26
7  PHX  25
8  DAL  24
9  STL  24
10 MIN 24
11 NSH 23
12 CGY 22

Oh, and DET are 3-4-2 on the road.  Gotta win tonight.  LGRW

Yeah, the lockout sucked, and it bites being a fan of a bubble team, but this season is exciting. Every game is so important, it’s hard to turn away for even a night

6 big fat juicy points on the table over the next 3 games….. I’d love to see the boys grab all 6.

Like a bad movie: you want to turn it off, but you can’t.

Thanks, Okie!

What a dumb schedule - three out west, one at home, then three (four?) more out west?  Can’t wait until the Wings are finally in the East.

One game at a time right?  Just get two points tonight.

LET’S GO RED WINGS !!!!!

prescribing dashes of dazzling Datsyuk dekes with plenty of Tatar sauce on top.  leftovers to be taken on the road.

It’s kinda sad and sick that the Hawks don’t have to worry about that for about a month,if ever.  They can be as sloppy and lazy as they want, no worries. It all just works.  Last night, against what should have been a tired Avs team, the Avs were turning up the heat in the third up 2-1 and on the PP, when the Hawks get a mini 2 on 2 rush.  Toews has the puck on the wing and Bolland just slaps the stick out of McGinn’s hands—a clear penalty—taking him defensively out of the play, allowing Toews a straight path to the net.  Who wouldn’t have fun when you’re getting that kind of stuff.

Still, the thing is, I think the Hawks can’t beat the Kings in a series.

I wonder if the refs aren’t being told that the Hawks current run make for great entertainment and great ratings.

Well that shouldn’t really happen.  Maybe they don’t need to be told.  I don’t know.  But sticks don’t just get dropped like that just when an opponent skates by by accident.  Pretty hard to miss.

What a very good night for the Wings last night, all teams around us lost, using up their games in hand without adding 1 point.

It would be very useful for the Wings if each Division leader won the rest of their games this season, and did so in regulation time (except when playing Detroit of course).

There’s still a few with one in hand, and if they aren’t playing today… it’s right back to 2 games in hand.
We reallllly need to pull in 2 points a game for the next few.

Thanks, Jeff.  Toasting the GDT with a dark roast coffee and a roast beef sandwich.

After tonights tilt with the Oil, DET have a home-and-home with the BJ’s, then the knives come out.

Indeed.  IMO, this stretch of games is the crossroads of the season.  They had better count for wins.

Thanx Okie. How’s the non smoking goin?

Will miss the L-bee due to a hockey game of my own tonight. I get to play captain today making out the lineup. Luckily, we play the worst team in the league so I hope we don’t pull a Wings vs BJ’S. Have a good one 19.

White out again, 5th straight game.  Really can’t argue with that thought process, Babcock explained the move pretty clearly and what problems White was having retrieving the puck and getting it out of Detroit’s defensive zone.  Until someone gets injured or starts making more costly mistakes there’s no reason to change.
