Abel to Yzerman

Game 1: Regular Season Regularity

Two goal deficit. Nothing from Franzen. Assloads of bad calls from Bettman’s top-notch crew, with the midget in attendance.

And it’s a damn good thing you didn’t “overpay” at the deadline for a mediocre, low-impact player like Gaustad, Kenny.

February 28th, unfortunately, is all Wing fans can point to right now (or maybe Franzen’s contract?).  And you deserve the scorn.

And at the end? Weber elbows Zetterberg, then slams his head into the glass.  Gary? Shanny?  We’re watching.

Two PP goals, a couple of flukes from Bubba.  A chance at the end and this series is winnable. Still.

However, if Hank’s down? Done like dinner.  And Helm was nothing more than a brief tease.  Consider him gone.

Injuries and officiating.

Anyone know if Weber has disciplinary history?
Because he’s certainly getting at least a couple of games from that BS at the end…

They have to look at that for supplemental discipline or the whole thing about “protecting players from hits to the head” is bullshit.

Zetterberg played 25:48 minutes.

Emmerton played 2:52.

Franzén was out on the ice in the last two minutes.

Nyquist was in a suit.

Mike Babcock, you idiot.

That was no part of a hockey play.  Anything less than 2 for Weber is a joke, and it should be 4.  It wasn’t a bad decision to make a hit, it was a deliberate attempt to concuss another human being.

Sit Weber the rest of the series (which will be the season). And then next year DET needs to pick up Suter to add insult to injury.

Did anyone see Datsyuk tonight?  Losing key faceoffs, generating less offense than Franzen.

I think a lot of you guys are focusing on the wrong things.  Who gives a shit if Nyquist plays if Datsyuk and Filppula are basically invisible?

A bit of reality check about being owned in face offs -  Detroit wins 32, Nashville 30.  Nashville won 2 important FO late, but that does not constitute getting owned when you win the majority for the game.

This is the league that waived the automatic suspension against Malkin in 2009 so I’m not optimistic.

Shanahan is handing out discipline now, if he is consistent there should be suspension of some sort, and immediate.

Why is everything reversed in the playoffs…

suddenly interference penalties occur every 2 seconds…

the Wings cant score 5 on 5 but get 2 PP goals…

and why does it seem that teams are starting to “get theirs” against the Wings

Penguins in 2009

Hawks in 2010

Sharks in 2011

and now the Preds?!?!

Why Holland lost this game of Chess.

Part of the GM game is seeing things ahead of your competitor(s).  Thinking ahead at what resources they might want and instead of allowing him those resources, taking them for yourself as well.  This results in not only a minus for your competitor(s), but also as a plus for you.

Gaustad and a 4th for a 1st is NOT a very steep price, especially when Nashville is going to try to keep him.

This non trade could be eating at us for 3-5 more years.

Weber had better be gone for at least one.  This was just as bad as Wisniewski at the beginning of the year.

Oh for fuch sake you *#$%@& idiots (mainly you, Primis). Gaustad’s goal was as lucky as they come, AND YES, the guy wins faceoffs…and not much else. This game was won with luck. This series isn’t over…far from it. If Game Two is a replay of this game, Detroit wins.

If you are this eeyore-ish, go root for the Blackhawks.

Agreed.  It’s insane to say that Detroit didn’t do well in the faceoff circle.  Gaustad however won some key d-zone draws on the PK (particularly the one to start the five-on-three) that were really crucial.

As for Weber?  The fact that this guys wears the “C” for Uncle Grandma’s team is really damning.  Stevie Y or Lidstrom ever pull shit like that?  Never.  To all of you who have been drooling to have this guy in Detroit, wake up and hear this—this is who Che Weber is—a fuching overrated meathead.  Always has been, always will be.  Stop listening to the hype from the Canadian media who always cringe when Lidstrom wins the Norris and whines when Che doesn’t.  This is their leader.  And be pulls a selfish, stupid, goon play at the end of a playoff game.  They can have him.

Oh and by the way, if NHL inc. is serious about cracking down on shitheaded douchebag stunts that lead to head injuries, then this is a legit five gamer—MINIMUM.  Even the talking heads on OLN are pretty much unanimous in calling this the very definition of a suspendable offense.  Yeah, we’re watching.

Weber used his get out of jail free card in October, 2011 -  Why Shanahan did not suspend Weber and what he expected from Weber going forward.

Shanahan’s explanation on Weber in October 2011, why he was not suspended for boarding.
______________
Okay. So why wasn’t he suspended?
Shanahan again:
“If you see my highest suspensions, it is when there are multiple offences,” Shanahan said. “Weber has played a long time in the NHL and played a very physical style and had no offences. Also, there was no injury on the play.”
Simply put, Shea Weber isn’t a repeat offender, and his spotless record prior to this incident earned him a reprieve.
That’s fine, I guess. I’m all for showing leniency to first-timers, although I hate the idea that their first-timer-ness will allow them to be first-timers again next time. Weber still doesn’t have a suspension on his record.
Thankfully, Shanahan addressed that too:
“It is a situation where he can’t make that hit that way again,” Shanahan said of Weber. “He’s now in a situation similar to (Kris) Letang where he has a fine on his record.”
In other words, if Weber were to make the same hit again, he’d see a similar fate to Kris Letang(notes).
If there’s any consolation for those that think the penalty was too light, it’s that Shea Weber just lost his “get out of jail free” card. Next time, Shea Weber, the Shanabell tolls for thee.
_____________________

So, will Shanahan remember and consider that he already gave Weber a free pass and put him on notice?  Will unseen forces in the NHL guide Shanny to leniency?  We shall find out.

If in the regular season I think this gets 2 - 5 game suspension.  Will this get tempered because its the playoffs, and it’s one of Gary’s teams?  Probably.
