You can see the post below for the whining, now for the good stuff.
Jiri Hudler needed that. He needed to start with a jolt of confidence and it would appear that Uncle Mike has proven his genius once again by putting the kid in a prime spot to win the game. He set him up for success and that’s good to see.
Does the home team have a choice of shooting first or last during the shootout? Because I’d, you know, kinda rather shoot last.
Dallas Drake earned some fans last night and he couldn’t have picked a more deserving foe than Corey Perry. That kid’s a punkass and he deserved the right hands Drake could fit under that windshield. Speaking of which, Drake started to take the helmet off less than a second after the gloves hit the ice. Perry never made any move to do so. He deserved the beatdown he kinda got.
Anaheim’s a dirty team led by a piece of trash captain. Pronger’s high stick on Maltby was classic Sasquatch. Nonchalantly looking the other way, just coincidentally leaving his stick in the air like a Roy glove hand in 2002..and waiting for Maltby’s face. Deserts a city that elevated him to legend status…make him your Captain. Suspended twice during the playoffs…make him your Captain. Continue to prove to the hockey world that you are an absolute dumbass on skates…Captain.
Kopecky looked largely lost last night, but his invisibility was overshadowed by the play of Maltby and Drake. That line is going to be fun to watch, and tough to play against. Babcock said it’s the best he’s ever seen Maltby play. Babcock also said he enjoys the new Kit Kat product, the wafer.
Ho hum. Outshot Anaheim…by a lot. Outhit Anaheim. Outskated, outplayed, out-thought Anaheim. Whatever. That’s a team we should have beaten in May.
Does anyone remember Todd Bertuzzi ever taking a single shot from the slot in Detroit? He looked great last night. If he stays healthy, he’s going to have a huge year. Mark Mowers looked good too.
Hasek looked average the first sixty-five minutes and downright brilliant in the shootout.
I fell asleep during the second intermission and woke up right after Homer’s goal. Dammit. Speaking of Homer, he looks faster.
Saw some overpassing last night, maybe due to the excitement of playing in a morgue. Don’t know. Samuelsson was a culprit more than once.
Rafalski looked very good. You can already see the difference in the power play. He obviously doesn’t have Schneider’s shot, but his passing is amazing.
Lilja looked like a turd and that makes me sad.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
