Evgeny Svechnikov Knows This Is A Chance To Prove Himself

03/08/2018 at 1:48pm EST

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

Evgeny Svechnikov hopes the adversity he faced the first half of the season in Grand Rapids makes him a stronger player for the remainder of the season and into the future with the Detroit Red Wings.

Svechnikov, the team's top pick in 2015 (19th overall), will make his Red Wings season debut tonight against the Vegas Golden Knights at Little Caesars Arena. The 6-3, 212-pound forward start on a line with Andreas Athanasiou at center and Justin Abdelkader at left wing.

"A lot of emotion right now for myself, full of energy and I'm very excited for the opportunity," Svechnikov said after the morning skate.

"I want to prove everything I can. I think I got a good chance."

Tatar said it was an emotional call with Holland and coach Jeff Blashill that day.

"I've been here for so long and I've been in a good relationship with Ken and Blash and my teammates," he said. "Obviously, it's tough to say goodbye to all of them. You are a little upset about it, but then, like I said, the excitement to join a new team, making new friends, joining a new organization, kind of took over."

Tatar had signed a four-year, $21.2 million contract with Detroit last summer.

"When you sign this kind of deal, you're thinking you're going to be here, but I knew we have to start playing better," Tatar said. "Unfortunately, we didn't, so something had to change. I heard rumors that teams were interested, so I was kind of ready for it, and it happened."

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
