Emmerton Signs; Hank Likely Out For Chicago Games

Embattled Deep Digger Captain Ansar Khan(!) reports today that the Wings have signed their 2006 top pick Cory Emmerton to an entry-level contract.
Emmerton skated with some of the Wings at Wednesday's optional practice at Joe Louis Arena. He'll join Grand Rapids for the AHL playoffs. Emmerton got off to a hot start at Kingston, where he was one of the OHL's leading scorers before breaking his ankle in December. He returned late in the season and continued to put up points in the playoffs. "He's a point-producer, sees the ice well, moves the puck well, good around the net,'' Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill said. "He just needs to add strength and keep improving his skating.''

Khan(!), clearly on fire, also said Zetterberg won’t play tomorrow and is most likely out Saturday as well.  He said Zetterberg is day-to-day and “is confident, however, that he’ll play in Game 1 of the playoffs, next Wednesday or Thursday.”

That would be nifty.

Osgood in net tomorrow for the division clincher, Hasek on Saturday.  Schneider’s fine.

Back to Emmerton. Red Wings Central lists him as the 4th ranked Wing prospect.  Much more on him here.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
