Dive In Detroit

I was reminded of what it's like to be a fan of the Red Wings today. I was reminded of the pain that inherently accompanies being a fan of a team that has been the benchmark of success in a shoddily run league. For a quarter century you and I knew, more than any other fan base, what it was like to truly feel that kind of stress, the kind that comes with playoff losses and OTs and all the other collateral aches we've been through.

I was reminded of it today because I realized that the only thing that could possibly rival being a Wing fan during the playoffs is being a Lion fan during every, single regular season game. My god.

So, Denver's in town.

They used to be our "rivals". Now they're just another bad-to-mediocre team playing hockey in a market more concerned with white wine prices than their NHL team. It's ok. It was like that long before this year. Jerseys retired following a two-year career. Apathy. Inconsistency. It's...ok. It's just Denver.

The Wings, though. I'm at one of those stages. One of those periods of my recent life when I wonder if I should hope. I wonder if Double A, and Mantha and Larkin should give me reason for optimism.

I'll allow it. I will. Tonight.

It's a Live Blog, bitches. LGRW.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
