from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
So here is a projected look at next season’s defensemen:
Who’s back
Alex Biega: Acquired in an early season trade from Vancouver as a fringe player, Biega was playing on what can be considered their top pairing (with Patrik Nemeth) toward the end of the season because of the progress he made.
Danny DeKeyser: Limited to eight games due to a back issue that required surgery, he will be back as a top-pair defenseman at the start of next season.
Filip Hronek: A building block who emerged as the Red Wings’ top offensive threat (nine goals, 31 points) and minutes leader (23:53) on the blue line in his second season.
Patrik Nemeth: He assumed a bigger role than expected, averaging a career-high 22 minutes, and often playing against top lines. He was the team’s most consistent defender.
Who won’t be back
Trevor Daley: Plagued by several injuries the past two seasons, he will be 37 in October and might retire.
