So, the Wings are picking 4 slots behind a playoff team, AND the league has decided that - even tho it’s totally possible for Green to still fulfill the conditional part - they’re just going to go ahead and make it not count any more for some reason. Amazing.

Never mind, just saw that he’s opted out of the playoffs.

As you were.

Always kind of a long shot that 4th round pick
would meet conditions to become a 3rd, but of
course circumstances would conspire to preclude
that altogether.

It’s interesting the Wings have three
picks clustered within six spots between
very late second and very early third
(and four picks between 51 and 66)

Either try to package them, or if the right guys
drop, they could really have their choice of a few
preferred players in that part of the draft.

Personally, I’d like to see them trade some of those picks for picks in 2021 as there could be no Jr hockey in 20-21 and that draft might be the best chance to find diamonds in the rough.

...and I should add if there is Jr hockey, players from overseas might not be able to get out of their country and into Canada or the US to play it—-requiring teams to depend more on their European scouts. And I trust the Wings guys more than others in that region.

Green actually retired 2 seasons ago, he just didn’t announce it.

Was this related to the illness that Green had or something in his family, or just general concern?

I would think it would be the opposite. If you haven’t seen any of the kids skate for a year and a half it would be more of a lucky crap shoot to get those gems. This years draft includes at least some recent data.

I think it was his Family along with personal concerns.
