Detroit/New Jersey Conversation

Game notes are not yet available from either the Wings or Devils tonight so lets start with this...

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

As the Red Wings look to end a three-game winless skid (0-1-2) Friday against the New Jersey Devils at Joe Louis Arena, M-Live readers inquired about some of the organization's young talent in this week's mailbag:

Q: What's going on with Tomas Jurco? Is it the dreaded sophomore slump? I hardly notice him on the ice. He looks like he needs more time in Grand Rapids. -- UtahWing

A: You're right, he needs some seasoning in Grand Rapids, and that's where he might wind up soon. There is no point keeping him around as a healthy scratch, since he's exempt from waivers, unlike Andrej Nestrasil.

Jurco has no goals and two assists in 12 games. He doesn't seem as physically engaged as he was last season, when he battled more around the net and in the offensive zone, leading to more scoring opportunities.

But he's just 22 and has only 48 NHL games under his belt, so it'll take some time. Going back to the Griffins, playing big minutes and producing offensively should help his confidence.

Regarding the Devils, they played last night in St. Louis so they probably arrived in Detroit in the early hours today. Cory Schneider was pulled eary in the 3rd period against the Blues and will start tonight in Detroit.

Anything on your mind, let's hear it in the comments.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
