Abel to Yzerman

D…As in Dynasty

Bowman, Yzerman, Fetisov, Larionov, Robitaille, Hull and now two more today. It shouldn't have come as a surprise. Maybe it's unpleasant for many of you, because of the hard fact their induction represents, but Brendan Shanahan and Chris Chelios aren't even the end of the line.

The 2002 Red Wings were the greatest hockey team of all time, and the legacy they left is a team that still plays the same type of game, with the same type of integrity, for an organ-I-zation that has refused to yield.

And there will be more: Datsyuk, Hasek and Fedorov are still to come.  Mike Babcock and Henrik Zetterberg will join them.  Chris  Osgood will, too. Larry Murphy's in, and that's due in no small part to his two Cups with Detroit.

The greatest franchise in hockey.  Then and today.  No team has sustained this kind of success. No fan base has been as priveleged as we are.

Grind your teeth over it if it angers you.  It's even better that Chelios, Hull and Shanahan won Cups after playing in Chicago and St. Louis...especially St. Louis.  Oh, the angst. Heck, I almost forgot that Osgood came back and won a Cup after wallowing in that pit.

Players come to Detroit to win.  And they leave as Hall of Famers.

"I know I wouldn't be on this call today if it wasn't for my time in Detroit. It's such a special place."

That's Shanahan, via @helenestjames.

Another banner day for Hockeytown.

Some people may not be as old as me and may not recall this, but the 1987 NHL draft was held at joe Louis arena. I was there that day. Brendan Shanahan was drafted by the devils that day in the first round. So, in a sense he started his pro career in Detroit.

As for Osgood, I heard two of the talking heads on NHL home ice on xm this morning and they indicated that Ozzie was close , but not a HOF’er in their eyes.

Ozzies numbers are BETTER THAN both Billy Smith & Gerry Chevers PERIOD. Wins, Gaa, SV %, SO’s.

And anyone who uses that old argument about how Ozzie benefitted from playing on good teams. I ask did billy smith not play on a team with nearly as many HOF’ players? (Bossy, potvin, trottier…etc)

And Bowman as well.

Bowman’s first team as a full-time head coach was with the B’Lose.  In their first three years as a franchise, they made the SCFs.  Bowman lost all three times in the SCFs and then went on to coach the Habs.  He won his first Cup just two years after leaving the B’Lose.

It is indeed absolutely fascinating to see who has come through St. Louis and never been able to get them a Cup.  Ever.

Scotty Bowman.  They had Gretzky and Hull…. together, as well as Hull and Oates.  They had Shanahan and Scott Stevens (yes, they did).  They had Curtis Joseph in net, as well as Grant Fuhr.

And still, nothing to show for it.  Nada.

You’re a f*cking idiot!  All of you!  The 2002 Red Wings ARE NOT the greatest hockey team of all time.  Just stupid!  What a retarded statement.  Another retarded statement is that the Wings are the greatest franchise in history.  F*CKING RETARD!  Don’t mistake recent success in the 90s & 00s as the greatest.  The greatest of all time are the Habs, and if you knew anything about anything outside of Detroit, you would know better.  Stupid Detroit fans know piss all about anything hockey related.  Because you are clearly retarded, you should also note that Murphy, Hasek, Robitaille, Hull, Chelios, and Shanahan were all considered future HOFers before they played for the Wings.  The Wings did not “make” their careers.  And, as per usual, Detroit fans suck all!

Osgood will never make the Hall.

hi. nice to meet you. so nice of you to drop in and share a well thought out comment. I find it interesting that you have such a case of penis-envy that you need a nik against something than for it. You must lead the chants of “RW Suck” at games where the Wings are not even present. Too bad you have nothing constructive to add other than name calling and sh1t talk. I guess you win the internet. Your parents must be proud.

The greatest of all time are the Habs, and if you knew anything about anything outside of Detroit, you would know better.

You mean the team that hasn’t done jack squat since the rules were changed to stop them from just signing literally everyone and burying in their farm system because there were no reserve rules or entry drafts?

Please, regale us with tales of Habs teams from a 6-team league with no reserve rules or entry draft or anything else.  That 2002 team did it in a 30-team league, with roster reserve limitations, farm rules, and a league entry draft for player dispersal (in fact at that time the Waiver Draft still existed even).

Both Chelios and Shanahan credited their days in Detroit – where both enjoyed their greatest success in 20-plus seasons – with helping them get into the Hall of Fame.

“I don’t think I’d be on this call today if it weren’t for my time in Detroit,” Shanahan said in a conference call with reporters. “In fact I know I would not be on this call if it weren’t for my time in Detroit. That first year we won their first Stanley Cup in a long time. It’s such a special place.

Just sayin….......
