Come To Poppa

The Detroit Red Wings have been in the Western Conference for like, I don't know, 30 years. Something like that.  The specifics escape me and most of you know the weight I give facts, anyway.

Well, there are a few--facts, that is--that I like to fall back on. They help me sleep.  They make me feel warm, almost like the Speed Racer footy pajamas I wore my freshman (and only) year at Northern Michigan.

One of those facts is this: the West has belonged to the Wings.  It is ours.  We own it.  I can say "we" because "we" have filled the western arenas. Every game. Every time Detroit's in town.  You've raised prices.  You've whined. You've written letters. And we still...kept...coming.

And the Wings, themselves, have dominated this conference.  Ruled it.  We are, literally, the "arch rival" of every team in the conference. They despise you, the 19.  And they fear them, the Wings.

The Western Conference has been Detroit's bitch from the jump.

And, if it's all the same to you, I'd be pleased as piss-laced punch if we leave on the same arrogant note.

Oh, it's going to be hard.  The Detroit Red Wings have not faced a playoff opponent so heavily favored since the Oilers in the 80's and Philly in '97.

And that will make it so much sweeter.  The Western Conference has belonged to the Detroit Red Wings because Baby Jesus decreed it.  He's not changing his stance now.

Bet against us.  Do it.  I like this team.  I like our chances.  And I like watching Joel Quenneville defecate himself.  I intend to see that 4 times in the next two weeks.

This is a Live Blog, bitches.

LGRW.  You just got in.  You just beat Anaheim.  Now take what's yours.

The reason I hate a game like this is the Hawks now realize they’re in a for a tough series.  Now they’re awake.  Win the next or it’s a 5 game series.

This is what happens when you only have one gritty forward that forces teams to keep their heads up, we need more Abdelkaders

Changes for the next game? Smith should sit….but then again, would White bring anything to the table?

Posted by Wings_in_NYC on 05/15/13 at 10:24 PM ET

Absolutely nothing.  For all the errors, Smith still has upside.  White has no positives or upside this season.  Unless someone is hurt, there’s no need to press him into service.

Wow, the Hawks are making the Ducks look like NOTHING.  Hopefully the Wings all have massive diarrhea or something, and the whole series isn’t like this. Because they’ll have no chance if it is…

Forechecking has been a problem for this team for a long time.

Well, this one was a lost opportunity. Huge opportunity.

Regroup, Wings, and let’s have some people take on Jimmy’s attitude, he seemed to be the only one that cared after the first period.

If this is the way the series is going to be, my only wish is that its a wake call to Holland that he cant just sit on his ass all summer, and then make excuses all season.

Stick to Abdelkader’s mid-section….guess that’s only a penalty early in the game.

Bert is trying when he’s on the ice, but his line is riding the pine.  Yeah, Fil has re-caught his case of Flimsy-stick and Mule looks like he wants to play hard, but just can’t seem to get it going.

I must have missed a whole bunch of goals then.  There are a lot more 0’s under “G” on the boxscore than that.

What?  If you mean team scoring then those are people that have to provide secondary scoring.  Hank and Pav can’t do it all by themselves.

I bet they don’t look like this every game.  They looked pretty bad in games 1 and 3 in the first round too.

It is a whole lot easier to list the players, besides Jimmy, that have shown up tonight.

Brunner
Neo
Nike
Datsyuk
Hank
Cleary (surprisingly)

Kronner and E-52, by default as the other 4 D have been pretty awful

Eh, it’s game 1 after a 7 game series halfway across the country. They came apart in the 2nd period after all of that. Not completely unexpected. There will be no panic in the leadership. They’ll be back. It’s gong to be a tough series.

It’s possible that one ref left his whistle in the locker room after the 2nd intermission and the other agreed not to make any calls out of solidarity.

Some of you guys can’t get past banging on the same guys over and over again though to realize when nobody is in fact doing enough.

This is one of those games where, save for Brunner and maybe Nyquist, nobody else did anything of actual substance.

Cleary (surprisingly)

Danny gets about 8 seconds of excellent per shift.  Sadly, he usually uses it up in the corner and once he gets back to the front of the net, it’s been burned up.

They should have put the puck on the net all those chances in the first period they passed backwards or sideways.  Haven’t had many opportunities since.
