Cinco De Suck On This Poultry

As you can see, as a means to deal with the stress…I’ve taken the high road.

Plus, there’s this.

Now.  The task at hand.  Big plans for today?  Shut up.  You’re not getting squat done today and you know it.

Check this out. I just came up with it this morning: your best players have to be your best players.  Catchy, eh?

Well fu**.  Pavel Datsyuk’s our best player.  Marian Hossa’s one of our best players.  Top 5 (how sick is that?) anyway.  They haven’t done enough the first two games.  Have they been invisible? No.  But we simply need more.  We need two points apiece.

Ryan Getzlaf is their best player.  Hank and Nick need to make him cry.  He needs to be stifled.  Yes. I know he’s good. I know he’s big.  But Rick Nash was good and big. Joe Thornton too.  And he’s been stopped.  Then again, he is Joe Thornton and he does have his calendar annually open starting 1 May.

Khan(!) says he’s a horse.  Nick Jr. says the Wings have to keep pounding him.  Because, in case you’d forgotten, they only have one line (sssssh, except for Marchant).

Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall hopes Getzlaf, in particular, will feel the effects of Game 2 tonight.

“I hope he’s going to be tired,” Kronwall said. “But he’s a tremendous player. He makes plays that not a lot of other guys can handle. Hopefully, it’s going to wear him down. We just got to keep going after him.

“It’s going to be tough for them to roll a short amount of guys over the course of a series.”

Bruce MacLeod’s trying to steal our cheese.

We’re trying something new at the paper. I’ll be on our website starting a half-hour before the start of Tuesday’s Game 3 and throughout the game, hosting a live thread. If you’ve got your computer handy, stop in and say hi ...

http://www.macombdaily.com

Live blogging. Q&A (I’ll have as many Qs as you). Bring your own snacks.

You’re dead to me again Bruce.

No, not really.  I’d highly recommend as many of you as possible stop in to the Corner’s LB tonite then bring back smart stuff to our LB and try to make yourselves look cool.

What’s the realistic expectation over the next two games? I ask that because after Game 1 you were thinking sweep.  Oh. Stop. Shut your whore mouth.  I know you and I’m telling you that after 1 was done you thought sweep and how great that would be.  Don’t be sad or ashamed. It’s natural. I thought it too and then I shotgunned a warm Busch and passed out.

That was unrealistic.  We all know that this thing’s going at least six.  So what do we expect from the next two?

I gotta go with a split.  My gut tells me they split and the loss comes tonite. Know what I’m saying?  Hell. I don’t. I have no idea. I stopped trusting my instincts on this team a long, long time ago. Every time the last six series’ I went into a game on the verge of harming myself the Wings come through and surprise me.  I think what that boils down to is a startling lack of panic on their part.  Not mine.

A few quick thoughts:

—You guys read the discussions going on about overtime?  Shouldn’t they be asking us?  Dude. You can’t change overtime.  C’mon. As horrible as it is, it’s an addicting kind of horror.  It’s the heroin of sporting events.  Don’t fu** with it Gary.

—Darren Helm scores tonite.  Oh, and so does Franzen.  Oh, one more thing.  So does Hossa.  Woops. Not done. So does Datsyuk bitches.

—“Play well from the start, right off the hop, first period like they played the third.”  Got it.  Noted.  How many times have we said that this year only to be disgustingly shocked when it didn’t happen?  Tonite? No idea. But don’t be surprised if it takes a period (or two) to get rolling (again).

—Would tonite be kind of a good time for Chris Osgood to steal a playoff game?  Does anyone even hope for that anymore?

—I too feel that Brian Rafalski should be playing if he’s only 70 percent.  I also think that if it was an injury that could be dealt with via needle, Rafalski would be the first to take “the Gilchrist.”

—So.  How’s this for fun?  Chicago/Vancouver at 8pm. Wings/Poultry at 10:30.  Both on Versus.  It’s a Back to Back Bitch on the V!!!  Well, unless Game 1 goes to OT.  Then we can all bend over again I guess, eh Gary?  Now, I’m not sure if Center Ice is carrying the Wings game? I believe it’s on FSD.  But I didn’t see it on the CI schedule so I believe that if overtime happens in the first one? Then those of us out of state can go ahead and suck it.  If ESPN were carrying the game?  “The Detroit/Anaheim game regularly scheduled to start here at 10:30 will begin on ESPN2.  We’ll join it at the conclusion of this one.”

—Griffs are on the verge of summer, down 3-0 to Manitoba.  And Megan Saler’s irritated to say the least with one Aaron Downey.

—When’s the last time the Wings played a 10:30 EST playoff game?  If my memory serves me correctly, I believe it was 15 May 2007.  Here’s what we wrote at 10:50 that evening, Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.

Chris Pronger has completely lost it.  After two games of being turned inside out by Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Cleary, Pronger is showing his true colors tonite with multiple penalties, several tantrums and at least one intent to injure….so far.

Brent Severyn is the Duck radio color guy. After the hit on Homer he advocated that the Ducks “bring out the barbed wire,” and “make a statement.”

Wings won that game 5-0.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y.
