Updated 1604 CST with Peterborough Pete’s breakdown.
Mike Chen, on The Battle of California, has posted a brief analysis of Game 4.
Even though it’s a three-game series with two at the Joe, I’m not jumping off a bridge just yet. The Sharks have given these games away, meaning that they were in control for most of the time. They know they can win at the Joe and they know that when they show up—such as the third period of Game 3—they’re the better team. Two consistent efforts, that’s all I’m asking for.
And the Wings can say the same Mike. They know that when they show up—such as the first period of Game 3—they’re the better team.
Time stood still for the Sharks at
goals like those are momentum killers…what a buzz kill…
I really have to get some sleep but let’s just say…The Wings dominated in the face off circle, the Sharks turned the puck over 24 times, the Wings directed the puck 80 times towards the Sharks net (49 shots, 16 missed shots, 15 blocked shots) - that’s amazing…that’s a recipe for disaster…combine that with the comedy of errors by Rivet and McLaren on the Lang Goal (oh least we forget the blown save by Nabby on that one) and then the Rivet penalty in OT with the Hannan clearing attempt up the gut and you get a lose…almost every time…in the end the Hockey Gods ensured that the best team on the ice tonight won this game…
Oh, and hey…just for fun let’s take a look at Shaved Ice.
I still believe and so should you. Is this a real series? Yes. Have the Wings proven to be a more worthy opponent than I expected? Yes. I stand by my statement of rather having the Wings first. I’m sure Mike would agree, with the Sharks playing at 60% we are 2-2 with the Wings. The Ducks would have swept us by now. We will come out bigger, stronger and better. There is no free ride to the Cup. This is a not a bad thing - it will make us stronger if we get throught this. If the Sharks get past Detroit, Anahiem should be shaking in the pond.
Arthur King of the Britains had the Killer Rabbit. We have some Nasty Octapus. But we will reach the Grail, I have no fear. Just a flesh wound friends, just a flesh wound.
News for you Grier. After having seen the Wings play 4 against San Jose, the Sharks aren’t nearly as intimidating as I suspected. All my griping about The Team We Don’t Speak Of was too much bluster and too much paranoia about a few blowouts over the winter.
I fully expected them to be faster, stronger, damned near bionic. But that hasn’t been the case. Detroit has more speed, more offensive weapons, better blueline depth and is a hell of a lot more prone to violence. We’ve seen one real good period of hockey from San Jose, out of a possible 13. One.
As I said earlier….Wings in 6.
