from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,
Here are eight takeaways about what has already occurred at the training camp in Traverse City:
- What Jakub Vrana’s injury means
This depends on what the specialist says after today’s examination. But the bottom line: if he is sidelined for an extended period, the impact will like last season’s loss of Tyler Bertuzzi after nine games. Vrana is expected to be the team’s go-to goal scorer. An extended Vrana absence from the lineup could create another roster spot for one of the rookies like Joe Veleno, Jonatan Berggren or Lucas Raymond. Or, it might open the door for Bobby Ryan who is in training camp on a tryout contract....- Cost of Jonatan Berggren’s Injury
If he’s back quickly and truly ready to play, the cost will be minimal to Berggren. The Red Wings say he’s day-to-day. If he is ready to play in the preseason games, he will have more than enough time to show if he belongs in the NHL. The best guess: Rookies will play most, if not all, of the preseason games. What we saw before he was injured is a player that can control play in traffic. He has patience with the puck and can make plays.
- Expectations for Mo Seider
Fans got a trip back to reality in the Red and White game when Pius Suter stripped the puck from Seider and scored.“Seider got careless there,” Blashill said. “He stayed inside, Suits stayed with it and found a way to score, so good for him.”
