Autumn's Closing In

04/18/2014 at 5:30pm EDT

It takes me 12 minutes to drive to work. In that span of time I listened to "Night Moves" twice. The live version.

Taped in Boston.

We've discussed this before. Last Spring, in fact.

When Seger talks about his '60 Chevy, he doesn't sing it. He states it. It's 1977 and our friends from Japan, Germany, Switzerland...they were all starting to send their cheap, small, economical cars to the US and Seger wanted no part of it. He was a Detroit guy then, as he is to this day.

And then he moves on to the "southern MIchigan summertime" line and the crowd goes crazy, as if they'd grown up there, as if they know what a southern Michigan summertime is really like.

Oh how they cheer that line.

In Boston.

I was gonna go with AC/DC for this playoff run. I'd decreed it just last week. I thought it might be good for the soul. But I can't. I was driving over the Coronado Bridge at 0500, laughing, listening to those lemmings cheer Seger as he was talking about our state, not theirs, and I knew. It had to be Bullet Bob.

All my fake friends have pets, or at least neighbors. And every one--all those domestic nice-to-haves--they're all in danger now. Nothing's off limits. Find them, eye them up. Make sure everyone knows that sacrifices may be required.

Somewhere, Larry Murphy is absolutely wasted. Staggering. Slurring. Watching. Judging.

While the rest of us sit uncomfortably on stools of cracked, red vinyl. Warm cheap beer ladled out by a bald man with an agenda.

The Hasek is full. The Stress Train is rumbling.

At no point in this post have we mentioned the words, "hockey", "Detroit", or "Red Wings". Yet all 19 of you know exactly what I'm talking about. Every word has meaning. Every reference.

It's on. Whore Style.

16 to 12.

It's a Live Blog, bitches.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
