Autumn's Closin' In

Oh, the angst in Ottawa. Their young stud has a microfracture of his wrist, or on his wrist, in his wrist. His wrist is broken. And the wailing, the absolute sobs from the high and mighty Canadian media, the same media that has largely ignored their newfound playtoys for years, the sobs are just bellowing.

It's maddening when a star goes down during a playoff run, isn't it? I mean, it's not like they'd really know.

It's not like anyone would know, not like we know.

Because no one's been through it as often as we have. No one.

Where was the outcry when Canadian hero Shea Webber cranked Hank's head through the glass? Non-existent. But we're used to it.

Spears to the nuts. Heads through the glass. Pronger attacks. Broken feet and ankles to both Shanahan and Yzerman. 70 foot goals. Fluttering pucks. Max fucking Talbot. 34 seconds. 3-1 series leads vanquished. Edmonton traps. Babcockian sweeps and LA upsets. Draper's blood on the ice and Scott Stevens pile driving Slava Kozlov and any Wing within eyesight.

Injuries. Shitty goaltending. Suicidal Legaces. Horrendous, slanted, horrific officiating. An Yzerman wrister off the cross bar that few remember would have turned the series in 2000.

You want to whine about a microfracture? Go ahead, Sens fans. Because in 24 years, we've seen it all. Every injustice a fan base can suffer, we've dealt with every bit of it.

Not to mention limo crashes.

But those are the heartbreaks sure to come when you consistently put yourself in a position for high expectations. With those hopes come the inevitable soul crushers.

And here we are again. Setting ourselves up. No one's picking the Wings. Not the Diggers, not the mainstreamers, not the bloggers. Nobody.

But I wonder, as you have and do. I just wonder what happens if our Uncle Mike finds a way to remind this team what they were back in December and January and into February.

Surely, that's impossible. There's no way to regain that footing. Is there? Tampa, with all their playoff experience and history, will most definitely win this, won't they?

Tampa, with their behemoth goaltender, playoff proven and battle tested, certainly has the edge over our own big petr.

It's not like the Wings have experience against 70 percent of the Tampa roster. It's not like more than half our guys played, and defeated, half theirs in the Calder Cup Finals just a couple years ago.

Tampa must win this series. The stars are aligned.

Aren't they?

Into the cesspool, the emotional sewer, the hell, the absolute abyss of playoff hockey that only you and I can claim to know so well. Only you have suffered through this for a quarter OF A FRIGGING CENTURY. Only you.

So drink up. Drink up and saddle up. Voox, the Hasek is yours. The stress train is fired up. Rumbling. Creaking. Stinking already of feces and vomit and the stench of sweaty stress.

16 to 12.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
