Autumn Closed In On Homer And We’re Live Blogging A Whole New Start

Saturday didn't happen.  Clubber Lang was fiction.  That Blues rookie was nothing but a nightmare, but holy hell that kid is good.  Enough about that. Didn't happen.

You know what did happen for real and no BS?

"Nine Tonight" was recorded in 1980 and it's unreal.  Know the best part? I know you do so don't sit there like Potsie Frigging Weber trying to pretend you're oblivious when we all know you've been paying attention all these years.

"Just like southern Michigan summer time."  That line is just so Seger.  And Seger is so Michigan because he's never forgotten his roots.  He belts that line out and the Cobo crowd goes nuts.

But wait...here's the best part.  It wasn't Cobo...it was Boston.  He changed that line and tailored it to us...in Boston.  He didn't go all Dave Matthews on us and say it was just like "eastern Nantucket summer time" to please those Northeastern yuppie tools. No. He brought Michigan to them.

It's why I can't get away from Seger.  The ultimate transplant who can't leave MI behind, like more than a few of us.

I have nothing to say about the Wings that I haven't already said today.  Husk and Gus in.  Fredo and William Tell out.  Quite The ClusterFuch is in, of course.

It's a Live Blog, bitches.  As it should be.

I don’t know; he’d probably yell at you to buy the beer, throw it at you when you don’t buy it, then run away and hide behind the cart when you turn around and look for him.

PP = 0-15

Capt. Obvious says that is bad.  Whats worse is that the opposition probably has had better scoring chances on the PK, than DET does on the PP.

Q was -2 last night.  He is -4 so far.

At least the PK is improving - there is that.

Ability to score consistenty started dropping when Rafalski retired, then took a plummet last season when Lidstrom was out for 12 games and has never reemerged.  See 2012 playoff round 1.

This team is offensively challenged.  Maybe had a couple of chances that could have been goals, but Jimmy stopped even better chances by the Stars.

Couple that with an inexperienced and ever changing blue line and getting a win looks difficult for the near future.

Not so fast my friend.  I just did some digging.

This season DET have allowed 11 GA.  6 on the PP (so no +/-), 4 Even-Strength and 1 SH goal - so 5 GA that go toward +/-, Q has had a hand in 4 of those.

Both DAL goals last night were ES.  Q was -2.
In the BJ game (3 goals allowed) 2 were on the PP and 1 was ES.  Q was -1.
In the STL fiasco (6 goals allowed) 4 were on the PP, 1 was ES and 1 was SH.  Q was -1.

Just saying.

Had Fil buried his chance on the PK, that game would have been a bit different.
Hell in the CBJ game, he rang the iron at least 4 times too.
We’re not just offensively challenged, we’re snakebit. Putting those together with the revolving door of bodies on the ice and you get 3 goals scored in 3 games.

Yes I think we are a bit snake bit too, and those seem to stand out more when you don’t score many goals.

I could look at other teams’ starts, I think Philly is winless after high expectations.  There is plenty of season left for them to turn it up.  I should say the same for the Wings but after watching them I don’t have a lot of optimism.

I know, normally the season is a marathon and it is normal for teams with rough starts to still finish high.  But The Wings roster is helter skelter, it was almost comical watching the introductions last night showing “those not dressed for tonight’s game”.  Hell there were 6 starters and the back up goalie.

There just is no time this year to recover from a start that puts you 8 or 10 points out of the playoffs after 25 games.  That just leaves the last quarter of a regular, regular season.

Bill I thought we were buzzing last night.  Once we pay our penance to Jobu we’ll be on our way.. As long as we don’t string losses we’ll have a chance to do damage when we get hot.

And yeah, posted the exact same thing about the injured during the intro’s, I was dying.

So we’re getting Kindl back, so we got what? Kron-Lash Smit-Q Huskins-Kindl

And you guys were bitching about our original top 6. wink

Yeah I thought we looked dangerous for spells too, in fact during the game I remember thinking Damn, we’re snake bit.  In the dazzling brilliance of this morning’s early sun and crisp 15 degrees I saw the end result in somewhat more bitter light, 1 goal after 59:57.
