Any Interest In Zach Bogosian?

The Buffalo Sabres placed Zach Bogosian on waivers today.

His AAV is $5,142,857 and he will be a UFA on July 1st., per CapFriendly.

Any interest?

I would imagine the Wings would be at the bottom of Bogosian's list but if he could perform well with the Wings, it may get him a contract.

He will be 30 in July and has had numerous injuries, per TSN.

Surem why not. Give him four games to try and attract some interest from another GM, and let them know that you’re willing to eat half his salary.

And if you can’t trade him then at least you have another NHL d-man on the roster for the rest of the season.

I’d grab him and he can stay in the cabana until one of our d-men gets traded at the deadline. It at least would give us flexibility for a move. And if we can’t trade any of our D, let him try out for a contract the rest of the year. But not at the expense of sending Lindstrom down.

We have our own waiveable (sp?) D, thank you. Aside from attempting to flip an overpriced asset, why add to that mix? Bring C-Lo back up and leave him there. It’s not going to win any more games, but I can’t help but think that an older 1st rounder should be working it out at the NHL level.

Yes, hopefully we are moving a couple vets for a bag of pucks at the deadline.  If he comes in and performs in the short term, see if he can be moved with salary retention.  If not, keep him for the rest of the season, instead of bringing E back up.  If he performs move him as a sweetener at the draft, if not, walk away.  We would only be out the cap space which doesn’t matter this season.  They are going to be moving some of the youth down to GR for the playoffs arent they?  They will need warm bodies, so why not.

Normally, most playoff teams love to add a veteran
D with some size and pedigree (however faded) who is at
least able to be a 7-8 guy for when injuries strike in the playoffs.

It makes me wonder how much injuries have killed any effectiveness
Bogosian had - or if it’s now perceived attitude is an issue.

Buffalo has had a pretty deep defensive group all season, especially
relative to their struggles. Though it’s not exactly a top group in high-end quality.

Kind of a red flag that Bogosian has pretty much been on the outside looking in
the whole time. He’s asked for a trade and Buffalo hasn’t seemed motivated to showcase him. Scandella went in a trade and understandably they are still playing younger guys with more promise.

Maybe it’s kind of a complex reach to claim and then try and flip him with retained salary. But LeBrun’s comment had me thinking the same thing. If Stevie really wants more picks and doesn’t care how late, maybe Bogosian with as much retained salary as possible could be appealing to a contender if he comes in and plays like his hair is on fire. Otherwise, who on D has any trade value? It’s hard to imagine Green would fetch more than a late pick, also with max salary retained. Does anyone want Daley or Biega for a #6-7? Ericsson for a #7?

It’s an expensive way to get a late pick. And it does undercut ice time for young guys to a degree. Then again, does Hronek need to play 24:30 every night?

No thanks.  Bogosian is a neverwas that has been able to cash in on the hope that springs eternal in the NHL for high draft picks.
