DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today assigned right wing Filip Zadina to the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

Zadina made his NHL debut on Feb. 24 vs. San Jose, scored his first NHL goal on March 5 at Colorado and totaled three points (1-2-3) in nine games with the Red Wings. The 19-year-old became the third-youngest Red Wings player to score his first NHL goal as one of just six teenagers to score a goal for the franchise in the last 30 seasons. Zadina has also played in 45 games with the Griffins this season, registering 31 points (15-16-31) to rank among the team’s leaders with 14 goals (T3rd), 31 points (T4th), four power-play goals (T2nd), 109 shots (4th) and two game-winning goals (6th). He returns to Grand Rapids riding a seven-game point streak (4-5-9 from Feb. 6-22), with points in nine of his last 10 games with the team overall.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
