Quinn Hughes came away from the World Championship enriched as a hockey player and with a fast friend in Detroit Red Wings' Dylan Larkin.
Hughes’ recent return from helping the U.S. win bronze at the tournament in Denmark is why he excused himself from Saturday’s fitness testing at the NHL combine. He’s projected to go as high as fifth at the June 22-23 entry draft in Dallas, but could also be available when the Wings pick at sixth overall.
Hughes, 18, is a dynamic skater and puck transporter, assets he showed off at the World Championship under Wings coach Jeff Blashill and alongside Wings players Larkin and Nick Jensen. Hughes held his own among men, and played in every game through a final victory over Canada. From the start, Blashill was clear about what was expected.
