GDT - S.C. Finals, Game 6: Red Wings (3-2) at Penguins (2-3)  (8:00)

SCF Game 6, and the Wings have an opportunity to hoist Lord Stanley at Mellon Arena, for the second consecutive year.  No need for storylines, numbers, quotes, or anything else, the Holy Grail will be in Pittsburgh and only for the Wings.  The only question is whether Detroit will be flying high again

I’ll see you Bitches on the Hasek, and in the true faith of Kate:  Let’s Go Red Wings!!!!!

History Beckons

There’s a little, itty bitty, tiny, eentsy frigging weentsy box on a shelf in a room way in the bottom basement of NHL league headquarters.

Is that where Gary Bettman’s spine is kept?  No. It’s where the dynasties are stored.

That box is open…Abel and Howe and Lindsay are making room.  Trottier, Bossy and Smith are bitching because it’s tight in there already.  Scotty Bowman’s smiling because he enjoys any player’s discomfort.

And after tonite?  If all goes as Providence has decreed, there’s going to be a little welcoming bash in that tiny little box, down in a place Gary Bettman doesn’t like to talk about, in a dark corner where parity doesn’t exist.

Well, Well…Lookee Here

And just as I’m about to head to the airport…I see this.

Some tool at Puck Daddy who isn’t Wyshysnski

More of this drivel is available at Abel to Yzerman (“I’m sure there was discussion about the ‘tired’ remarks and the thoughts from esteemed writers like Helene Elliott, gushing and babbling happily about the ‘end of the Wing dynasty’”).

Please, everyone that isn’t a Detroit fan (i.e. tolerable people): Let us join together to issue a formal apology for ever having believed that anyone that is not the Red Wings would win this Stanley Cup, with a corollary that Chris Osgood(notes) is at least twice as good as Ken Dryden and Little Caesars has the best pizza on the planet.

For Ten Bucks Per Year, I’ll Make Sure You Have A Super Huge Screen In Your Backyard

Politics has always been a subject we’ve artfully dodged here at the home of objectivity and critical analysis.  So when I bring you the following quote I can proudly state that when we blast the idiot who said it, the affiliation of the politician in question won’t matter in the least.

I also have a meeting tomorrow with a Congressman.

Wanna guess?

Why So Blue Panda Bear?

Great crowd in Detroit.  Lots of tv interest in “his” game. Two great teams in the Final.

But this man doesn’t look happy.  Wonder why.

Born And Raised In South Detroit

We’re starting with this, because we should.

But we’re also starting early because I want you reminded of what this year has been like.  What you’ve said about it, and what still could be.

GDT - S.C. Finals, Game 5: Red Wings (2-2) host Penguins (2-2)  (8:00)

Been undecided about this post, vacillating between hockey minutiae and other content.  The numbers are, as usual, below.  However, understanding that this is game 5 of the SCF, I really don’t think they matter all that much anymore (well maybe the exception being the Wings inept PK).  The series will be decided on heart and courage, or as Uncle Mike puts it, will.  Is it coincidence then that this pivotal game is being played tonight?

I am confident that most of you realize the signifigance of this day, June 6,  D-Day: The largest single-day amphibious invasion of all time, with 160,000 troops landing. 195,700 Allied naval and merchant navy personnel in over 5,000 ships were involved. The landings took place along a 50-mile (80 km) stretch of the Normandy coastline.  Total allied casualties (killed, wounded, missing, or captured) are estimated at approximately 10,000.  May God cradle all of the participants, those still living, and those who gave their last full measure, in his arms.

The imagery of WWII is indelibly punctuated by British PM, Sir Winston Leonard Spenser Churchill:

We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and the oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills, we shall never surrender.

Admitting You Have A Problem Is The First…

Thursday broke me down.  Crushed me.  It hurt worse than a triple overtime size twelve.  Considering the disgust I felt yesterday morning? I’m surprised I’m even posting now.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome: wphoulihan@gmail.com
