Ummm. Hello? Do We Have An Asst. Coach Or Not?

Screw it. I’ll run the power play.

We’ve got one guy in Atlanta saying McCrimmon’s been hired.  A guy in Michigan agreeing.  Another guy in Atlanta confirming.  And a bunch of Diggers in Detroit riding the fence.

Ho frigging hum.

Back To Annandale? Negative. Not Gonna Happen.

Steely Dan carried me the last four miles to work this morning.  Donald Fagen advocates a California tumble into the Pacific.  Whatever. Nothing a little glue stick can’t fix.

Meanwhile, we have issues to address.

You Got A Schedule?  How ‘Bout Some Venom To Go With It?

Good morning. How are you?  Summer going well?  Mine would be, if not for two factors.

I’m a guy so I refused to ask for assistance the first time I loaded my boat on a trailer from the water.  Also decided not to (a) ask for help, (b) read any material whatsoever that would have given me hints how to do it, (c) remember to lift the motor.  So that was cool.

Oh, and I also watched 44 minutes of an infommercial about Time/Life’s Soft Rock Classics of the 70’s.  I know.  But I couldn’t…stop…watching.  Seals and Croft’s timeless classic “Summer Breeze” lured me in, followed by hit after soft rock hit, including Dr. Hook’s “When You’re In Love With a Beautiful Woman.”

Jan. 1, 2009 figures to be another historic day for the venerable old ballpark when it opens its doors to the National Hockey League for NHL Winter Classic 2009, which this time features an Original Six matchup.

The host Chicago Blackhawks will square off against the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Detroit Red Wings, in a 1 p.m. ET game.

Research: Zero Boats Named After Pens This Summer

Many of you, 19 at last count, have latched on to the idea of helping me name my boat.  Your responses have been heartwarming.  I’ve located a nifty device that should help us in this very serious endeavor.

If you go here, you can test the name out on a boat that actually looks a bit like mine.

Me? I decided to give a little back to our friends at Pensblog.

Don’t Doubt Me…Ever

The odd relationship between you, the A2Y 19, and I continues.

I wrote a post the other day, one that was rife with startling coincidence and generational metaphors that should have left all 19 of you more than a little shaken at my abilities to tie seemingly unrelated pop cultural milestones to current Red Wing late breakers.

Instead, you elected to point and laugh at me.  At least one of you questioned my loyalty to America’s greatest rock and roll band simply because I mentioned the Sammy Hagar era.  I know.  Much of America is still split into the Hagar and Roth camps.  It was a gutsy move on my part, sure to irritate many of you.

Digging Deeper: Khan(!) Drunk Dials Wally’s Agent.  And…What If?

DD Captain Ansar Khan(!) reported around midnight that he decided to go against the Deep Digger grain and actually call up a newsmaker.

I spoke to Filppula’s agent, Bill Zito, Friday afternoon, and he said he hadn’t received any offer sheet or spoken to any other team about Filppula.

You go Ansar.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome: wphoulihan@gmail.com
