“I can’t be bothered with hygiene issues right now.”
—IwoCPO to his wife 7 minutes prior to Game 5.

It’s on.

Helm In For Hartigan; Tootoo Needs A Beatdown

Four games too late in my opinion, but Mark Hartigan finally finds a seat tonite.  Abbadabbadoobiedoo?  No.  Darren Helm.

Update from Friday’s morning skate: Rookie Darren Helm will make his playoff debut debut in Game 5 vs. Nashville, replacing Mark Hartigan. The fast-skating Helm will center the fourth line with Darren McCarty and Dallas Drake.

“Really excited and nervous at the same time,’’ Helm said. “There’s a lot of young guys up, being one of the first guys to jump in definitely means a lot to me, gives me some confidence that they believe in me.’‘

Oh and Kris Draper has gone ahead and confirmed for us that Jordin Tootoo is a piece of trash.

Downriver Puck Bunnies Rejoicing

Well, it took eight months and it featured a humiliating admission from Dominik Hasek, and a two-game collapse that could have organ-I-zational consequences.  But Chris Osgood’s your starter and if there’s one thing I know it’s this:  nothing about this should make you feel anything but really frigging sick.

Does that mean the decision’s wrong? No.  Does it mean the Wings can’t win this series? Nope.

Beating Bubba: Keys To Game 4

Yes. I know. Tardy today.  How about some early afternoon intrigue for you?  Lebda in. Lilja out.  Saw that coming, did you?  Yeah, you probably did.  Gramps is all fired up. He’s been Lilja’s greatest defender for two years so that’s no surprise.  But Uncle Mike’s throwing another wrench in the works.  All the Diggers are united in saying Darren Helm’s got a chance at suiting up tonite.

For who(m)?

No clue.  But we can guess, eh?

Uncle Mike: “How can a veteran group not be composed?”

Yep, that’s the question today.  More importantly, it’s a better question tomorrow and it will be phrased, “will a veteran group be composed?”

“That’s what we talked about this morning. That makes no sense. The first shift after you score a goal, or they score, it’s one of the biggest shifts there is. It controls momentum. We have to do a better job.”

Back In The Running?

Anybody still sobbing over losing the chance at a punk-ass Swede demanding top six minutes?  Well, buck up.  Tick Tock Kenny may still be in it.

Just ran into Ken Holland at breakfast where he said he’s heard Swedish prospect Fabian Bruustrom may be reconsidering, or reevaluating, Bruustrom’s decision to sign with the Vancouver Canucks. The reason is Vancouver yesterday fired its GM Dave Nonis. Nonis was a key reason behind Bruustrom deciding on the Canucks.

The Wings promised a one-month look-see at the start of the season and the chance to show the organization he belongs to stay at the NHL level.

Stuck On Shanahan

No freak shows, that’s not some blatant tribute to the Irish Jig.  Read today’s Keys To Game 3 post and you’ll get it.

If tonite wasn’t the best example of why the playoffs suck, someone find me another.  Nevermind.  Each of you have five or six separate examples.  Tonite’s is just the freshest.  Figured I’d better get this out of the way.  In case you haven’t noticed over the last three years, I sometimes find it difficult to post after a tough loss.

Like for a week or so.

Real Tomato Ketchup Bubba?  It’s A Game 3 Live Blog

The SoGay will undoubtedly be rockin’.  Cousins will be doing things illegal in most northern states.  And we’re Live Blogging.

Game 2’s LB?  A world record 234 comments.  No hockey blog post in history anywhere on earth has ever accrued that many comments.  Beat it tonite? We’ll see.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
