Follow The Cup

You know where it is today.  But the rest of the summer’s up in the air.  However, because you’re special, I have a solution.

Every Tuesday and Friday through the summer, the Stanley Cup Journal will chronicle all the activities of hockey’s greatest trophy, and will give readers exciting and exclusive peaks into the players’ activities with the Cup. The Journal will no doubt travel to Newfoundland with Dan Cleary, the first native of that province to win a Stanley Cup championship, and spend a good chunk of time in Sweden being passed between Holmstrom, Kronwall, Lidstrom, Lilja, Samuelsson and Zetterberg. But no matter where the Stanley Cup goes, excitement follows, and so does the Stanley Cup Journal.

That’s from Kevin Shea’s Stanley Cup Journal at the Hockey Hall of Fame website.  Have at it.  All summer.

34.7? Nothing But A Footnote

Listening to Mike and Mike yesterday morning, Greenberg made a point I find hard to argue with.

“I think we’re looking at a dynastic situation here.”

Now.  Is Mike Greenberg, employed by the network that will run second-round coverage of the Kemper highlights twenty minute before hockey, a credible judge of an NHL dynasty? No.  But, he’s right.

Ken Holland Must Pillage The Free Agent Market.  Changes Are Needed.  Soon.

Oh, shut up.  I’m just kidding.  I know as well as you do that we’ve got plenty to celebrate and discuss before we start providing Tick Tock, architect of a Dynasty, with unsolicited and ignored advice.

I know at least three, if not 19, of you are expecting a tremendous, detail-rich, juvenile yet poignant, recap of Game 6 and the entire playoff.  It’s coming, but not until tonite.  I’ve got two months of work to catch up on in one afternoon.  Sound familiar?

Oh hey.  Notice anything different about the banner up above? Thanks Dub.

And So The Battle Ends

I’ll tell you, one of the most enjoyable aspects of this historic final was the running commentary between the 19 and the seemingly millions of fans who visited The Pens Blog.  We acknowledged from the beginning that we’d met our equals in terms of juveniliciousness and tenacity.

What I didn’t tell you right off the bat is that the staff at tPB are all class.

Don’t believe me?  Here’s what arrived in my inbox minutes after the game ended tonite.

Transcript from actual phone call at 1552 today:

Me: Hello?

Wife: Tornado warning.  The kids can’t leave school.  They’re all huddled under their desks.  Trees are falling.

Me: Does the cable work?

It’s a Game 6 Live Blog bitches.

Highly Intelligent Babble

Looking through the comments of this post today, a few jumped out at me.

First, Captain Dennis Polonich’s high-speed graph showing his work productivity during the playoffs:

G _*
O __*
O ___*
D ____*
B ________*
A __________*
D ____________*

That, my friends, is the kind of technical brilliance that has made A2Y what it is today.

Dealing With 5

Was that the worst?

Worse than Bird to DJ?  Worse than Weber’s timeout or Evans getting picked off third in ‘87?  Was it worse than last year’s Game 5 against the poultry?

Yes. Yes.  Yes and yes.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome: wphoulihan@gmail.com
