The Importance of Getting It

Hot Damn. It’s about time Jason Williams returned to form.  We’re going to need a little production from him as the playoffs get closer, especially with all those injuries.

What?  Oh.  My bad.

Funniest Babcock quote of the year (not written by me)? This one may be up there.

MLive/Khan(!)

Williams, traded to the Blackhawks on Monday for Calder, scored both goals for Chicago. His short-handed effort on a breakaway at 11:15 of the second period cut Detroit’s lead to 4-1. He added a power-play goal at 2:46 of the third.

“It’s good to see him score, too,” Babcock said of Williams. “What the heck.”

Friday Odds and Ends

Back in Tennessee for the weekend.  Pleasant to be reminded that teeth, nouns AND verbs, and the merits of relationships outside the traditional family tree are all still considered overrated here.  Oh, c’mon Bubba.  You know I’m just teasin’.  Speaking of Bubba…

Problems With Bert?  Good.

A day later and I have a few impressions. They're mild and I certainly don't mean to ruffle feathers, because that's not who I am. So here we go. Are you disappointed that the Wings have acquired a man who blindsided another player from behind with a sucker punch that essentially broke his neck? You are? Not me.

As Expected…The Delicate Genius Chimes In

Not surprisingly, Mitch Albom has graced Wing fans with his viewpoints.  We should have expected it.

Sure, I know.  He ignores the most successful team in the state’s history 50 weeks out of the year.  He has zero credibility in the Wings room or in the minds of any reasonable Wing fan.  Like his large buddy at the Detroit News, Albom writes exactly nothing about Detroit hockey until he absolutely has to…when the playoffs roll around.

A Chance Holland Had To Take

Woops. Watch out Klessel. Since I correctly predicted the Bertuzzi deal, I've decided to charge 11 dollars per page view, create a "chart" and hire Andy Strickland to impersonate Nostradamus on a weekly basis. Conditional and a pick? Considering the moves made by Bubba and The Team We Don't Speak Of, Holland had to take this chance. I like it. I've liked it all along. I'm assuming a physical will determine when or if Bert actually dons the Winged Wheel. Anyone want to guess how long it will take little Little Mitch to pen a sobbing column of outrage? I'm betting 24 hours. More later. *updated 2:51pm ET

Deadline Travel

I’ll be in the air headed back to DC most of the day.  Feel free to use this post to comment on any deals Holland makes (or doesn’t make) throughout the day.  And remember this:  Nearly killing someone ONCE doesn’t make a player a bad person, necessarily.

Were Wing Injuries Willie’s Ticket To Chicago?

Yeah, I think so.  If not for the uncertainty surrounding the Kopecky situation, Dan Cleary’s injury and Samuelsson’s foot, I’m not so sure the Boy Wonder makes the Calder deal.  But, deal he did and the Wings bring in some grit.

Calder for Williams. Like it?

By now you know Kenny Holland has made his first move of the final 24, moving Jason Williams to Chicago, getting Kyle Calder from Philly in the process.  I need a bit to digest this one, so I’ll have something more later tonite.  I do think this is the tip of the Holland iceberg though.  I think at least one more deal’s in store, of a bigger variety.

Strike 3 For Holland?

He lies to the deep diggers, talks on tiny high-tech cell phones and it would appear that he uses a liberal amount of goop in his hair.  All these factors point to this: Kenny Holland’s a secretive, sneaky kid.

And I happen to have a hunch that our boy Kenny has something up his sleeve.  What?  I don’t know.  I’m still recovering from being compared to Jiri Hudler yesterday, so my head is kind of reeling.  But, something’s nagging at me.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome: wphoulihan@gmail.com
