Anniversary Flashback:  29 Days In Hell

“You’ve, well, pretty much sucked.”

“You’ve cursed our Wings, but you’re almost gone you frigging bastard.”

“Some will say, though, that you’ve had value, that you’ve made this team tougher, more resilient.  I happen to disagree.”

What?  Two consecutive days of Legace flashbacks?

Hanging Out Near DC Tomorrow?

Still narrowing down places of worship (bars), but it would appear we’re going to throw an A2Y get together tomorrow (Thursday) night in the nation’s Capital (ol).  What prompted this?

Our long-lost traveler, Andrew from Ann Arbor, is hitting the big city and he promised he’d buy me at least one cheap beer.  So we’re throwing down while we watch Turco burn like the bitch he is.  I’ll let you know the location either tonite or tomorrow morning.  But it should be somewhere around the Verizon Center, and it must have Center Ice.  Any of you experts out there who have suggestions, send ‘em in.  And you’re all invited.  An A2Y All Skate.

BJ’s?  It’s Either A Live Blog Or That Long, Lovely Dancer At That Club Downtown.  Your Choice.

Wow. Big day.  For the first time in three years, a savant actually used the word “brah” in the comment section.

It threw us all for a loop, but I think we’ll recover.

Anniversary Flashback:  Legace’s Legacy

Thanks to Monkey who recommended I take a gander at the WayBack Machine.  Boom.  The long, lost A2Y archives.  Does it go all the way back to 1977 when we started this thing?  No. Just three years.

But sit down for this.  Apparently, and I’m still coming to grips with this, we used to actually like Manny Legace around here.

How Do You Blog When Your Team’s In The Toilet? Don’t Ask Me

I’m not the strongest blogger when it comes to adversity.  If the Wings lose tonite to Columbus?  You may not see me again until the weekend.  I used to try and justify behavior like that.  But I’m way past that.  Now?

Whoa.  Have We Been Wrong All Along?

There are a few staples in our lives.  Things we rely on to be true, no matter what.  Facts we can just hang our hats on and move on to the next dilemma.

1.  If Rocky had thrown that big left while Appollo was against the ropes in the 15th round of the first fight?  He’d have been Heavyweight Champion fifteen seconds later.  The Master of Disaster was practically comatose, unable to raise his hands, ribs shattered.  Balboa had him, but hesitated. Why he did is one of the great unsolved mysteries in the history of the ring.

3 Years Down

I don’t ask too much of my readers, and you know who you are.  All 19 of you.  Your assignments are simple, really.  Read the drivel. React to the drivel. Read more. React again.  I don’t ask you for money, for recognition, beer or beta copies of made-for-Cinemax movies.

So the least you could have done was remind me of our third anniversary.

Shafted?

If the shoe was on the other foot…

That’s all I’m asking of you.  Just stay objective and keep in mind the fetal position we’d all still be in if it had been a Wild goal waved off, then given back—with some fairly shady “conclusive proof”—last night.

Well, Just Take A Look At Matt Ellis

One of the real great guys to come out of the Wing farm system had himself a game last night for Buffalo.  Number 1 star, according to Ross McKeon at Puck Daddy.

No. 1 star, Matt Ellis, Buffalo Sabres:
Matt Ellis has played less than 100 career games, but none will probably stand out as much as Saturday’s contest in Boston. Ellis scored two goals to help the Buffalo Sabres snap the Bruins’ 10-game winning streak and hand the hosts their first loss at home since the first month of the season. Ellis, who was in training camp with the Los Angeles Kings before getting claimed off waivers by Buffalo just before the start of the season, was recently recalled from the minors. Ellis scored the game’s first goal 3:20 after the opening faceoff, added his second 3:04 into the second period and chipped in an assist for a three-point game on Buffalo’s final goal. Ellis, a plus-3 with three shots a faceoff win, did all of his damage in only 9:51 of ice time.

In case you’d forgotten young Matthew, here was our reaction when he passed through waivers back in February, ‘08.

As If I Had A Choice

Just got finished watching the game, at 0900 EST.  DVR’d that bad boy and glad I did. Sorta.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome: wphoulihan@gmail.com
