Unfriggingbelievable. Citing unrest among the team’s top players and an inability to co-exist with Ken Holland, Mike Babcock is stepping down as Head Coach of the Red Wings. According to a release from the Wings, Paul MacLean will coach the Wings the rest of the way, hopefully deep into the playoffs.
Not since the heady days of Darren Garcia have I witnessed such brilliance in the comment section. The post dedicated to the tooletry that is Pierre McGuire has resulted in some truly priceless monikors. I can’t stop the voices in my head, nor can I silence the A2Y readers. It’s time to decide on McGuire’s glossary entry and I’m leaving it up to you to judge the work of your peers.
Update 2014: If you add quality suggestions to the comment section of this post, I’ll—in turn—add them to the poll. I have a feeling there will be many more.
Update 0323 the next day: I’ve added a few of your suggestions. “Home Depot” requires explanation that you’ll find in the comments. Personally, I’ll be using that one myself on a co-worker later today.
I’m sure there are some Canadia(e)ns who would dispute this, but it’s pretty clear to me that Pierre McGuire is a tool.
And Pierre LeBrun is a genius without peer.
Evidence? Thank you for asking. I do, in fact, have some.
Reason to feel slightly optimistic today. Slightly.
...was extremely optimistic that’ll be able to play this week. The cortisone shot he had on Friday is working well.
“We’ll see, Wednesday or Thursday. I don’t know about Wednesday, but I’m really hopeful for Thursday,’’ Holmstrom said. “Today was way, way better, so I think (the shot) worked. It would be nice to get some games before the playoffs. You’ve been out for a long time, it’s tough to get into the playoffs right away.’‘
Optimistic? Yes. Fully? No. We’ll see. The DDC also reports Hasek will be starting Wednesday and Sunday, with Osgood in net Thursday for the last BJ of the year.
Updated 1157 with more from the Anti-Digger.
Mikael Samuelsson didn’t skate and spent his morning on the training table. Coach Mike Babcock said that Samuelsson was feeling better, but there is no date set for his return.
Brad Stuart went through the whole practice. He could pass fine. He could a little, but not with any authority. Stuart said that he’s expecting to return sometime next week. There’s not much that can be done for his broken finger other than taping it.
We have a few days to kill before the next battle with another Sister from within the Division That Little Gary Built. In that span of time, I think it would be in all of our best interests if you pondered the pain—win or lose—that awaits us.
Big day for Bubba. Big day. For the Wings?
Stay healthy. That’s it and that’s all.
Live Blog it is.
Bubba’s in town today and he’s feeling frisky. Winning, competing, shutting out BJs, eyes on a first round matchup that would only lead to community pain in Nashville. Hasek’s starting, says he feels nifty. Mac’s sitting, but re-assumes role of team spokesman. No matter the circumstances, this phrase is not pleasant: “shot in the groin.” More on that, and I’m sure you’re happy. Gordie’s almost 80 and the celebration’s slated for the Joe today.
I left it up to you, the A2Y readers, to decide where we should converse during the remaining regular season games, then the 22 playoff games to follow (4-1, 4-2, 4-2, 4-1).
Oh no he dint. Oh…yes I did. Yes I frigging did. I just predicted the outcome of all four Wing series’. Just for fun, let’s predict how the Blues will do. Ready?
Woops. Sorry about that. Live blog here.
MacLeod has checked in from the morning skate.
Dominik Hasek won’t play tonight because of the flu. He practiced, but left the ice early. Jimmy Howard will back up Chris Osgood.
Tomas Holmstrom (abdominals) had tests yesterday that were negative, meaning good news on his injured midsection. He did not, however, practice with the team today. His return date is unknown.
Dallas Drake (chest) will return to the lineup tonight.
If Homer’s healthy for the playoffs, only an idiot (Blues fans, for example) would pick against the Wings. No one has the depth or variety of skill on each line.
Updated 1729 EST: Link to site streaming tonite’s game is in the comment section.
You going tonite? Not me. I’ll be sitting in front of my computer like some pathetic Blues fan gamer watching McCarty’s return through a backdoor URL that’s probably going to get me arrested and sent to whatever minimum security prison the geeks get sent to for stealing stuff like that.
Because, you know, it’s on the NHL Network, which I’ve never seen a single minute of—because Verizon Fios doesn’t carry it.
I’m having a hard time getting my head around who to blame for that. It’s right…there, but I can’t place it.
Woops. Got it.
About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome: firstname.lastname@example.org
