Minnesota Wild Acquire Pontus Aberg From The Anaheim Ducks

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

ST. PAUL -- Minnesota Wild General Manager Paul Fenton today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired forward Pontus Aberg (pronounced PAWN-tuhs A-buhrg) from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Justin Kloos.

Aberg, 25, has recorded 19 points (11-8=19) including three power-play goals in 37 games with Anaheim this season while averaging 15:37 in TOI/game. He ranks second on the team in power-play goals and T-2nd in goals. The 5-foot-11, 196-pound native of Stockholm, Sweden, has tallied 37 points (16-32=37) in 105 career NHL contests with Nashville and Anaheim. Aberg has also collected five points (2-3=5) in 18 career Stanley Cup Playoff games. He was selected by Nashville in the second round (37th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Anaheim claimed Aberg off waivers from Edmonton on Oct. 1, 2018. He will wear sweater No. XX with Minnesota.

Kloos, 25, has recorded 30 points (12-18=30) in 34 games with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL) this season. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound native of Lakeville, leads Iowa in scoring and ranks T-1st in goals this season. He appeared in one NHL game last season with Minnesota, skating 8:39 in his NHL debut on Oct. 24, 2017 vs. Vancouver. Kloos was signed by Minnesota as a free agent on March 29, 2017.

The Plan For Filip Hronek

Blog: Abel to Yzerman By Paul

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

Blashill wants to get young defenseman Filip Hronek in the lineup during this upcoming western Canada road trip.

He wants Hronek to play, not sit.

“My expectation is Fil will play on the trip,” said Blashill, who made Hronek a healthy scratch Tuesday in the Red Wings’ victory over Anaheim.

With Danny DeKeyser returning to the lineup Tuesday after missing 20 games after a wrist injury, and none of the remaining five defensemen playing poorly enough to warrant being bumped out, the young Hronek drew the short straw to sit.

Hronek hadn’t been error-free during this most recent stretch of games, but the 21-year-old was also playing with increasing confidence, appeared to be getting incrementally better, and earning points in four of the last five games.

“He’ll be on the trip with us for sure,” said Blashill, effectively squashing the belief Hronek would be sent back to Grand Rapids before next weekend’s NHL All-Star break. “He’s played certainly good enough for him to give me tons of confidence that if I put him in, he can help us win.”

All Kinds Of Trade Talk

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from TSN,

- The Toronto Maple Leafs have been long rumoured to be in search of a top-four defenceman to strengthen their chances of a playoff run.

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie confirmed Wednesday that the Leafs’ first-round pick this year is in play ahead of the trade deadline, but suggested one or even two forwards could be moved for the right addition to the blueline....

- Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford said last week that he believes Derick Brassard has struggled to adapt to his reduced role. And TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports that the team is now expected to move him and find a better fit for the team's third line centre....

- As a pending unrestricted free agent on the last-place Philadelphia Flyers, Wayne Simmonds has emerged as trade bait ahead of the deadline.

The 30-year-old winger has 15 goals and 21 points in 46 games this season and TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun believes he could benefit any contender in a Stanley Cup run.

“I think any team that thinks they can win the Cup this year, adding Wayne Simmonds would be a hell of a finishing touch. I love that guy,” LeBrun told TSN Radio 1040 Vancouver on Tuesday....
