Joe Pavelski’s Future With The San Jose Sharks

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News,

Joe Pavelski will be playing in the NHL next season. Whether he’s back with the Sharks is another matter.

“Am I concerned? I don’t know. I know I’m going to be playing hockey next year. Hopefully it’s going to be here,” Pavelski said Thursday. “We love it here. I think something will happen, who really knows, but coming off a lot of emotions coming through the playoffs and that round, we’ll sit down and take a look at what will happen here. We’re going to be alright, I think, regardless.”

Pavelski is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 as he finishes the five-year, $30 million contract he signed in July 2013. He led the Sharks with 38 goals this past year, and just completed his fourth season as the team’s captain.

But he’ll also turn 35 in July, and if Patrick Marleau — Mr. Shark — can sign with another team via free agency, just about any player who has worn nothing but teal throughout his NHL career can, or so it seems.

Whether to reach an agreement with Pavelski on dollar — and particularly term — figures to be one of Sharks general manager Doug Wilson’s biggest decisions this offseason, and there are a few.

The Decision On Slava Voynov’s Suspension

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

NEW YORK/TORONTO (May 23, 2019) – The National Hockey League Players’ Association and National Hockey League announced today that Arbitrator Shyam Das has issued his decision with respect to the appeal of defenseman Vyacheslav Voynov’s one-season suspension issued pursuant to Article 18-A of the NHL/NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement.  Arbitrator Das upheld the Commissioner's determination that Voynov be suspended for the equivalent of one NHL season, but found that he is to be credited with having already served 41 games of such suspension during the 2018-19 regular season.  Accordingly, the suspension will remain in effect until the mid-point of the 2019-20 regular season.

Report- Pittsburgh Penguins Trade Talk Involving Phil Kessel

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Josh Yohe of The Athletic,

The Penguins and Minnesota Wild have a trade proposal on the table with Phil Kessel as the centerpiece, numerous sources confirmed to The Athletic....

However, Kessel ultimately will have some say in this decision, as he is the owner of a partial no-trade clause that allows him to name only eight teams he can be traded to....

However, numerous sources confirmed that Kessel is unsure if he wants to play in Minnesota. He did research on Minnesota and the Wild during the past week, the sources said. Kessel is very close friends with Ryan Suter. Both are natives of Madison, Wisconsin, and played internationally together for Team USA.

It is believed Jason Zucker, the speedy Wild forward who scored 76 goals the past three seasons, would be part of the deal. Minnesota made it clear to other franchises that Zucker, 27, is available.

Chris Ilitch On The Development Delays Surrounding Little Caesars Arena

Blog: Abel to Yzerman By Paul

from John Gallagher of the Detroit Free Press,

Responding to months of criticism over his organization's shortfall of development around Little Caesars Arena, Christopher Ilitch said Wednesday his timelines for building a lively pedestrian-oriented district proved overly aggressive but his family's passion for Detroit remains strong.

His interview with the Free Press on Wednesday marked the first time Ilitch has publicly discussed delays in building out the vision of District Detroit that he sold to the public five years ago. That vision included renderings of sidewalk cafés, people strolling in the evening, and buildings old and new filled with new tenants.

Virtually none of that has happened. Along Cass Avenue behind the Fox Theatre area, multiple surface parking lots operated by the Ilitch organization sit where the district was to have risen. Of six residential projects Ilitch outlined two years ago this month, none has started construction.

In a 15-minute interview with the Free Press arranged after several weeks of requests, Ilitch read a short opening statement and answered most questions about District Detroit by returning to his prepared talking points.
