For the people with satellite, he said the NHL has told Comcast the NHL games they broadcast, must be made available to all dish users.

Winners and Losers

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Scott Burside of ESPN,

If there is a new mantra for teams in the retooled NHL, it is one borrowed from the Jurassic period: Evolve or die. From buyouts to the entry draft to the opening of the wildest free-agency period in the history of the NHL, teams have been laid bare, forced from the shadows of checkbook-dominated team-building. Some teams were ready and seized the moment; others provided a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing, while still others seemed paralyzed by the entire proceedings. Using our very sophisticated best-of-five-pucks rating system, here is a look at how teams have fared in preparing for the new NHL dawn now that the free-agency bazaar has slowed save for the remainder bins.

Coming This Fall- OLN HD

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

I paid a visit to the OLN website today and saw this:

With OLN HD, our action-packed, edge -of-your-seat programming is even more impressive. Enjoy shows like The Lance Chronicles, Fly Fishing America and Gravity Files. Experience crystal clear images paired with first-rate content. High definition was made for the outdoor world that OLN delivers. Coming this fall.
Many of us are hoping for every NHL game in HDTV, but that isn't going to happen. But it is nice to see OLN will have a HD channel just in case the NHL chooses them as their cable broadcast partner. I noticed the website is a bit confusing though. I am not sure if the HD channel will only be VOD and not a live feed. Times should soon tell us I imagine. Also, Comcast has part ownership of curent HD channels INHD & INHD2, so that may be another option for HD broadcasts. I wonder if Mark Cuban's HDNET stations will still be able to show NHL hockey in the fall?

Talks Fail With Czechs

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Reuters via metronews,

Czech and NHL ice hockey officials met for four hours on Wednesday but failed to break a deadlock over player transfer payments, an obstacle to National Hockey League participation in the Olympic Games. "We want an agreement that will be advantageous to both sides," said NHL Executive Vice-President Bill Daly, who attended the talks along with Czech officials and Rene Fassel, the head of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and Ted Saskin, the head of the NHL Players' Association.

Don Cherry Looking Forward to the New NHL

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from the Mississauga News,

Mississauga's best-dressed hockey personality believes a revamped National Hockey League will also look pretty good to fans when it returns in October. Don Cherry, the popular and dogmatic star of Hockey Night in Canada's Coach's Corner, told The News that sweeping rule changes should result in a better game on the ice. With the player lockout over, NHL officials have introduced a series of new rules for the 2005-06 season, the objective being to increase offence and bring a faster flow to the game.

Bill Clement on the Future of the NHL

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from advanceofbucks.com,

Bill Clement had just retrieved his baggage from the Philadelphia International Airport carousel. Fresh off of broadcasting Citgo Bassmaster Classic for ESPN from Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena - an event he described as "15,000 crazed fishing fans" - Clement placed a cell phone call to offer his take on the National Hockey League's freshly minted Collective Bargaining Agreement. Motoring north on Interstate-95 toward his New Hope residence, his words rushed through the line with the enthusiasm of a slap shot. "For the welfare of the sport, there had to be a correction," insisted the 54-year-old former Philadelphia Flyer. "The sport was headed for oblivion. The business model was completely shattered."
