Bad Attendance OK In Original Six City?

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,

Last night for its game with the Thrashers, Boston drew 16,009 fans. We’re all aware of the difference between official attendance figures and how full the place actually looks – virtually regardless of sport and team – so let’s just say the T.D. Banknorth Garden looked about two-thirds to three-quarters full. Had the same happened in Atlanta, Carolina, Nashville, Phoenix or San Jose, hockey snobs would have said it’s the product of a bad market. What’s the excuse for Boston?

Good Man Hired By NHL

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from TSN,

John Shannon has been a driving force behind hockey broadcasting in Canada for many years. Now he’ll be doing it on both sides of the border at the same time and on behalf of the NHL.

Deals That Would Make Both Sides Happy

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Allan Muir of Sports Illustrated,

Boston deals Sergei Samsonov to Detroit for Jiri Hudler. Detroit is primed for a run deep into the playoffs, but could use some speed, creativity and finish on the wing. Hudler's close to a blue-chipper, but the Wings have a wealth of undersized offensive-minded prospects.

Sens Making A List

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from the CP via TSN,

John Muckler expects to see plenty of buying and selling before Thursday's NHL trade deadline and the Ottawa Senators are up for some wheeling and dealing. ''We're looking for a forward, we'd like to get maybe a depth defenceman,'' he said, adding that with No. 1 goaltender Dominik Hasek recovering from a muscle strain in his groin area, the Senators may also pursue some insurance between the pipes. ''We've looked at it, we know who's available. We just haven't made a decision.''

Yotes & Islanders May Be Moving Players

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,

The trading-deadline guessing games are in full swing nowadays, with less than a week to go before the Mar. 19 deadline and two of the teams most worth watching are the Phoenix Coyotes and New York Islanders, both of which had just about played themselves out of playoff contention until they won big games Thursday night. The other quality the two organizations share is that philosophically, neither is opposed to making multiple player moves.
