Dan Snyder’s Parents Finally Returning Home

Blog: KK Hockey By Alanah McGinley

From NHL.com,

Finally, the tour has come to an end, and the only road that lays ahead is the 401 QEW, the long stretch of Ontario highway, that leads back home. But before they can turn over the keys and head for customs, they have one more stop to make.
After the long seven-month NHL tour in which Graham and LuAnn visited each NHL city to spread the word of their beloved Dan Snyder Memorial Foundation, they will end the tour where it began – in Chicago – where they will visit old friends, the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves, to present Brian Sipotz with the Dan Snyder Man of the Year Award for volunteering his time and efforts toward many charitable causes throughout the year. That ceremony takes place April 14.

Sabres’ Connolly Might Sit Out Tonight

Blog: KK Hockey By Alanah McGinley

From David Shoalts at the Globe & Mail,

The Buffalo Sabres may have to make one lineup change for Wednesday night’s game against the New York Islanders.
Centre Tim Connolly is “sore” according to Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff and may not be able to play.
Connolly missed almost all of the regular season with a concussion and stress fracture to his leg.
“I hope he can play, but we won’t know for sure until later,” Ruff said after Wednesday’s game-day skate.
However, this came as news to Connolly, who said he felt “fresh.”

Hockey Team For Sale on eBay

Blog: KK Hockey By Alanah McGinley

From UPI,

The eight owners of the Amarillo (Texas) Gorillas professional hockey team have posted it on the Internet eBay auction site to raise capital.
While there is an opening bid of $695,000 posted for the team, one of the owners, Shaughn O’Grady, told the Amarillo Globe-News the club isn’t really being auctioned.
“It’s not a ‘for sale’ sign in the window,” O’Grady said. “But, in order for us to get to where we want to be four or five years down the road, we’ve got to re-capitalize our investment.”

Note: Here is the team’s website and their press release of this sale. However, I can’t find the live eBay auction for some reason. Anyone who sees it, feel free to drop a link in the comments.

Blogger’s Choice Awards

Blog: KK Hockey By Alanah McGinley

Rob just dropped me an email showing the Kukla’s Korner is a nominee for Best Sports Blog.  Very nice.

Maybe while Paul is away with his family emergency, we can throw a few votes on there for KK?  Might be a nice surprise for when he gets back. (Almost as nice as the surprise that I haven’t managed to completely blow up the KK servers in his absence…)

Well, feel free to vote, or not.  It requires free registration to do so.

Thanks, as always, for being readers.

Senators’ Patrick Eaves Day-to-Day

Blog: KK Hockey By Alanah McGinley

From Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun,

Patrick Eaves’ phone rang in his hotel room Monday and on the other end of the line was Colby Armstrong.
The Penguins winger wanted to make sure Eaves was all right after Armstrong delivered a crushing blow to the Senator in the second period of Ottawa’s Game 3 win on Sunday.
While Eaves wasn’t able to suit up for Game 4 last night, Armstrong wanted Eaves to know he didn’t intend to cause an injury when they collided at the side of the net.
Eaves was taken off the ice on a stretcher. CBC reported he had a concussion, but the Senators have refused to confirm those reports. The club is calling it a head injury, saying Eaves is day-to-day.

Doug MacLean’s Future in Columbus

Blog: KK Hockey By Alanah McGinley

From Aaron Portzline at the Columbus Dispatch,

The Blue Jackets’ ownership group will meet this afternoon at a private location, where they’re expected to determine the fate of president and general manager Doug MacLean.
Majority owner John H. McConnell called the meeting, which will include the three principal minority owners—Wolfe Enterprises; real-estate developer Ron Pizzuti; and the Crane Family, which owns Crane Plastics.
Multiple sources indicated yesterday that McConnell, who owns 80 percent of the franchise, will seek input from the other owners, and that this will not be the typical end-of-season meeting.
Anticipation of the meeting and uncertainty regarding MacLean’s future have made for a curious time in Nationwide Arena.

Flyers Dancing Guy

Blog: KK Hockey By Alanah McGinley

And now for a brief break from actual “news”... a tribute to the Flyers Dancing Guy.

Really, you’ve got to respect a fan that can dance after the season his team just had. smile

Note: Thanks to David for pointing this vid out to me this morning. Always good to get a smile into the hockey newsday.

Massive Changes Coming to Phoenix

Blog: KK Hockey By Alanah McGinley

From TSN,

While the Coyotes claim that Wayne Gretzky will be given more of a say in personnel matters, the team has yet to hire a new general manager to replace Mike Barnett. Finding a general manager with an independent voice, and not tied so closely to the Great One, is the only way to affect the dramatic change necessary.
Off-Season Game Plan looks at what should be an eventful summer in Phoenix.
In recent years, the Coyotes have made terrible player evaluations, while also surrendering quality players that were deemed to be too expensive, leaving a team that is consistently out of the playoff contention and doesn’t have a roster that figures to change that situation any time soon.
Masive changes have to happen, both in the front office and on the ice.

Edmonton Plotting a New Arena

Blog: KK Hockey By Alanah McGinley

From CBC,

Mayor Stephen Mandel will soon announce a blue-ribbon committee to examine building a $400-million arena in downtown Edmonton.
The downtown arena, an idea talked about in Edmonton for years, would be built on the site of the downtown post office just north of city hall.
Mandel will name a panel next week that will be charged with examining the details, such as figuring out how to pay for the arena.

Alexander Semin Kicked off Team Russia

Blog: KK Hockey By Alanah McGinley

From The Hockey News,

The Hockey News.com has learned Washington Capitals star Alexander Semin has been kicked off the Russian national team, prompting Semin’s agent to refer to the fiasco as, “the most bizarre situation I’ve ever experienced in hockey, ever.”
Mark Gandler, who represents Semin, said the Russian team’s decision to remove Semin from the team because he arrived hours after the team’s first practice was unreasonable and far too harsh.
“I don’t understand it…there is no explanation for it,” Gandler said. “Alexander did nothing wrong, but even if he had, the punishment doesn’t fit the crime.”
