Chicago Home Game on the TV Schedule

Blog: KK Hockey By Alanah McGinley

From Barry Rozner at the Daily Herald,

Even if you don’t already have tickets for the Blackhawks’ home game Nov. 11 against Detroit, you will be able to see the match.  On TV.

Yes, a home game on TV.

The franchise begins a new era on that Sunday at 6 p.m., when Rocky Wirtz broadcasts a home game on local television.

A team source is “99 percent’’ certain that will be the first home game shown on CSN, the first of roughly 5-7 home games the rest of this season.

Wirtz would have done it sooner and would have done more if it could have been managed logistically, but it’s pretty late in the game to get more than that number of high-definition home contests on TV in 2007-08.

Having Fun with the Rangers

Blog: KK Hockey By Alanah McGinley

In honor of tonight’s game between the Penguins and Rangers, Empty Netters at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has posted what they think is the best NYR video to be found on YouTube. (So go check it out.)

Meanwhile, I think I have a pretty strong challenger for that honor.  If you ask me, this one should win the prize:

Line Of The Day

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from the LA Times,

This one, in the Ottawa Sun, involved the Kings listening to offers for forwards Alexander Frolov and Dustin Brown in exchange for a goalie.

“There’s no basis to that,” Kings Coach Marc Crawford said Monday after practice in El Segundo. “Everybody, reporters and probably coaches alike, try to fantasize about trades. They’re exactly that—they are fantasies. That trade would never happen. Ever.

“It’s a fabrication by somebody saying, ‘That might work. They need a goalie. And boy, who could we get that’s young and inexpensive?’ And those are the names. They look at the salary chart and say, ‘These guys are inexpensive. That makes sense.’ But it really doesn’t.”

No To Foppa

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Ken Campbell of the Hockey News,

Why the Senators would want anything to do with Forsberg in the first place is mystifying because – read this out loud a number of times if you have to – Forsberg is nowhere near being the player he once was. He plays on the perimeter and while his vision and passing skills are as sharp as ever, his body is broken down and he literally cannot be counted upon from one game to the next.

Brad McCrimmon Should Be The Atlanta Coach

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Al Strachan at Fox Sports,

...However, Waddell can certainly be blamed for what has happened since. By naming himself as the interim coach, he has given the impression that he doesn’t have a better candidate available, even though he has one standing at his side in the person of assistant coach Brad McCrimmon.

McCrimmon is a solid hockey man. He was an integral part of arguably the greatest junior hockey team in the history of the game, and he was an elite-level defenseman throughout his career.

more and I do believe both Sean Burke and Scott Mellanby on the CBC Hot Stove Saturday backed McCrimmon too for the job…

Caps & Their Bloggers

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from the Washington Times,

No team in professional sports offers as much unfettered access to bloggers as the Caps, though several teams have rolled out special accommodations. The New York Islanders, for instance, created a special “blog box” separate from traditional media members, and other teams have provided credentials on a game-by-game basis. The growing number of bloggers has captured the attention of NHL officials, who are exploring whether a league-wide policy toward bloggers is needed.

“The NHL is looking closely at it,” said Caps chief communications officer Kurt Kehl, who served on a special committee to address the issue at a recent league meeting. “There is some fear of the unknown.”
