Well, well, well….Take A Look At Adrienne

Blog: Abel to Yzerman By IwoCPO

Amazing what fun you can have when there are five days between games.  Earlier today, whining Dive apologist Adrienne Dater posted on his Twitter account that he was going to “quit twitter” if he didn’t have 1000 followers by Thursday.

If I don’t get to 1,000 followers by this coming thursday, I’m done with twitter. Not worth the time otherwise

Naturally, that struck a chord.  I found it odd that such a credible “journalist” as Adrienne would find it necessary to sob for readers and or “followers.” But that he did.

Versus/Directv Update - Nothing New

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

David Pollak and some members of the Sharks organization had a chance to talk with Bill Daly today…

Tonight’s Sharks game is a Versus-only telecast, which means, of course, that fans who subscribe to DirecTV won’t be able to watch from the comfort of their living rooms. Bettman has been on record before, urging fans to write both the network and the carrier to reach a new contractual agreement. Essentially, the league is a business partner with each, but doesn’t have the legal wherewithal to force a settlement and can only lobby from the outside, not sit at the table.

“Unfortunately, we’re still at status quo,” Daly said when asked about where things stand. “The league office has made significant efforts both with Versus and DirecTV to try to break the logjam and try to move towards sensible ground. The good news is, the parties continue to talk, they’re exchanging drafts, but in terms of forecasting a resolution, at this point there’s no good news to report.”

Oh, This Should Be Fun

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Adrian Dater of All Things Avs,

I know you’ve got my back out there, Avaholics, and I have a favor to ask: follow me on twitter. My handle is adater (imaginative I know), and by getting me to 1,000 followers by Thursday, you’ll not only make me feel good, but you’ll make a bitter Red Wings crank blogger out there feel really bad. Who’s with me?

At last check, I’m up to 823 followers. A couple days ago, I put out a tweet saying if I didn’t get to 1,000 followers by Thursday, I’d quit twitting. As many of you know, I have a sarcastic side, and I actually meant the tweet as a joke.

But some stuffshirt Wings blogger by the name of “iwocpo” from the site “Kukla’s Korner” took it as a personal affront (this is probably the same tough guy who likes to make fun of somebody’s mother and sister and a guy who almost died from a sucker punch by one of his Old Wings players (You know the one, Mr. It Is What It Is) and has started an “unfollow” campaign on me). Yawn.

continued and Adrian, his blog is Abel to Yzerman and it can be found here...

Questioning Guy Carbonneau

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from CBC,

What player has surprised you the most so far this year?

(Carbonneau): It would have to be Michael Del Zotto from the Rangers, so far this season he has been the best of the young players.

And the Colorado Avalanche as a team has surprised me. The acquisition of Craig Anderson has obviously given them more stability in net.

Paul Kelly Welcomes Review Committee

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

via Darren Dreger of TSN,

Former NHL Players’ Association executive director Paul Kelly has commended the Association for the formation of a review committee to investigate the internal operations of the Union, but still believes there is more work to be done.

“I applaud the players for taking this initial, but important step.  I welcome a complete review of what transpired at the NHLPA and the reasons behind it.” Kelly told TSN.

Another Rumor Bites The Dust

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Steve Gorten of the Sun-Sentinel,

First the news about the Nathan Horton rumor. I hate to even give credence to a report that doesn’t cite a single source—named or anonymous—but I know y’all are curious after the Ottawa Sun reported the Panthers are trying to trade Horton.

So I asked GM Randy Sexton about it this morning. He told me “there is no shred of truth” to the report, that it was “absolutely” made up and that he hasn’t contacted teams, nor have any contacted him, about trading Horton.

And Sexton didn’t sound like an executive just throwing out the routine denial you often hear when there’s such speculation. He was vehement it wasn’t true. Personally, I believe him.

Horton has a goal in each of the past two games after going without a goal the first four games. Like Sexton, Coach Pete DeBoer isn’t unhappy with Horton. DeBoer said today Horton “has played some real good hockey here for us” and that the No. 1 line as a whole has played well even though Horton, Weiss and Booth don’t have many points to show for it and are a combined minus-16.

Waiting In Phoenix

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Mike Sunnucks of the Phoenix Business Journal,

The Phoenix Coyotes’ Chapter 11 bankruptcy case is in a holding pattern.

U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Redfield Baum is waiting on a revised $148 million bid for the team from the National Hockey League. But the NHL is waiting on guidance from Baum on how exactly to revise its bid.

Why Frolov Is Scratched Tonight

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Rich Hammond of LA Kings Insider,

Here’s what Terry Murray said, after today’s morning skate, about Alexander Frolov being scratched. Frolov stayed on the ice (with Trevor Lewis) long after the rest of the players left the ice — typical for scratched players — and stayed after the bus left. I have put in a request to talk with Frolov before tonight’s game. Here are Murray’s quotes…

MURRAY: “Frolov is out. That’s really a hard one. You don’t want to take your best players out of the lineup. That’s how you win games. Your best players have to be the best every night in this game. It’s such a competitive division, a competitive conference, a competitive league, that you just havfe to have your top guys on their ‘A’ game every night in order to give yourself an opportunity to win. It’s a hard thing, but those are the demands that the players have to meet.

added 4:43pm, Hammond had a chance to speak with Kings GM Dean Lombardi,

LOMBARDI: “When you sit a player out, and it’s a player who should be one of your best players, it’s safe to say you’ve probably tried everything. This is not something that was a knee-jerk reaction. That’s the first thing. Then, like I said, you’re worried about the message it sends to the rest of the team, because you want those guys to play hard.

Afternoon Line

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

...not getting enough players on a call for a vote suggests there are still too many guys who can’t see beyond the end of their respective noses. This is a story that doesn’t resonate for many fans. Sadly, it doesn’t seem to resonate with enough players, either.
