Hot HD

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Allison Moore at TVPredictions,

Every day here at TVPredictions.com, I scan the HD programming aisles and serve up 10 programs so good—so hot!—that you can’t miss them.

We call this list, “The Hottest Shows in HDTV!” And here they are for Thursday, January 10, 2008: (All times Eastern; smart remarks are the opinion of the author alone.)

1. NHL Hockey
Buffalo takes on Ottawa.
HDNet, 7:30 p.m.

more (but no more hockey) and great to see a NHL hockey game is listed as the hottest show in HD!

Coyotes Have Will To Win

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Dave Strader at PhoenixCoyotes.com,

It’s impossible to overstate what the addition of Ilya Bryzgalov has meant to this team.  As Wayne has stated many times, goaltending wasn’t really an issue in the first six weeks of the season. The team got several strong outings from Auld, Aebischer and Tellqvist…but Bryzgalov brought something that my partner Darren Pang likes to call “presence”. Bryz has presence because of his size, athleticism and attitude. Since Bryz has become a Coyote, the entire team has begun to take on a presence.

Yzerman Goes Into Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun, Y

zerman, who will be inducted into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame tomorrow, played another nine seasons, completing his 22-year NHL career with one team….

“It’s obvious he was a great talent and very gifted offensively,” said Senators GM Bryan Murray, who coached Yzerman for a four-season span that ended in 1993.

“He made a commitment to the team that forced him to give up some offence. And he became one of the great captains, one of the great leaders and one of the best two-way players in the game.”

New York (January 10, 2008) – Sales of NHL-licensed product on Shop.NHL.com for December increased 44% compared to the same period last year, the National Hockey League (NHL) announced today. The holiday sales period experienced an additional boost due to the demand for official Amp Energy / NHL Winter Classic merchandise. The most searched term on Shop.NHL.com was “Winter Classic,” while four of the six top-selling items were of the NHL Winter Classic variety.

Twenty-six NHL teams increased online merchandise sales for December 2007. The Pittsburgh Penguins, winners of the Amp Energy / NHL Winter Classic, led the pack with a sales increase of 164% in comparison to December 2006. Rangers Not In Panic Mode

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Larry Brooks of the NY Post,

There will be no band-aid deals in which the Blueshirts surrender value for emergency replacements. In other words, Petr Prucha is not being sent to Columbus for David Vyborny.

And here’s a third piece of good news: on Tuesday, with his team needing Jaromir Jagr to be at his best, the captain responded. Jagr is elevating his game as the season progresses; steadily if not necessarily dramatically.

If the Rangers are going anywhere other than home on April 7, they need their best player to be their best player.

Leafs Go Interactive

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Marketwire,

Beginning with tonight’s game between the Los Angeles Kings and the Toronto Maple Leafs, fans watching on Leafs TV or via NHL Centre Ice will be able to participate in a five-game contest that involves interaction with live hockey. Powered by LiveHive’s NanoGaming technology, the game—called Leafs TV Game Master—allows fans to play along while they watch, accumulate points, and qualify for prizes. Players make such predictions as who will get the next goal, as well as answer trivia questions, and chat with other fans.

more. wonder if it will allow you to make trades too?

Anyone Can Be Benched

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from the National Post,

Lest you think Iginla was being picked on during the 3-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes, he had company on Tuesday in the second-period doghouse. In fact, personnel from the top two lines—Iginla, Kristian Huselius, Craig Conroy, Owen Nolan, Daymond Langkow and Alex Tanguay, the latter seeing a little more than two minutes of ice time in the middle frame.

The message from head coach Mike Keenan was clear—ice time has to be earned, and his top dogs weren’t earning it against the Desert Dogs.

But he also wanted to acknowledge the job being done by the worker bees on the third and fourth lines, and was looking for a spark from them.

They Used To Be Backups

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Ross McKeon of Yahoo,

It’s interesting to see what has happened this week to Manny Legace and Chris Osgood, a couple of goalies the Detroit Red Wings thought were nothing more than back-ups not long ago.

Legace was named the league’s No. 1 star for the week ending Jan. 6. The St. Louis Blues’ No. 1 man in the net has pretty much been spot on all season, despite playing at less than 100 percent.

Osgood has played so well that not only has he emerged as the go-to guy in Detroit, but the Red Wings awarded the 35-year-old with a three-year contract extension on Wednesday.

Holy Hasek, what’s going on here?
