An Interview With Sharks GM Doug Wilson

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Mike Chen at Fox Sports,

The voice stops. Silence. Doug Wilson is at a loss for a word — not words, mind you, but a single word. The San Jose Sharks GM, normally one of the most articulate speakers in the game, can’t quite encapsulate his approach for next season in a single word.
During the course of the past 20 minutes, Wilson touches on many things in very thorough detail. His message is clear, and it’s one that Sharks fans have been hearing in different forms over the past month since San Jose was eliminated in a somewhat humiliating fashion: We will be better.

Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms on a three-year contract with right wing Scott Walker. The contract will pay Walker $2.5 million per season.

KK Road Trip To Columbus

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

I am happy to report KK will be updating live from the 2007 NHL Draft in Columbus.
I will be arriving in Columbus on Thursday so start looking for updates from there late afternoon.
Alanah will be holding down the Kompound and who knows, we just may be having a bit of fun.

I am looking forward to meeting the MSM that I have frequently pointed to, spoke with and interviewed.  The same holds true regarding many of the folks affiliated with all of the NHL teams.
As important, I anticipate meeting the large contingent of bloggers that are attending the event.  Who has the first round?
It should be a great experience and we look forward to giving you an inside look at the NHL Draft.

Nashville Players Waiting For Direction

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Allan Maki of the Globe and Mail,

The suspicion is that current owner Craig Leipold will slash the Predators’ payroll to its lowest point, roughly $33-million (U.S.), which could make for an anguished exit from Nashville.
Mason has heard the rumours. The fact he’s heard nothing else is worrisome.
“It started with the sale,” Mason said. “No one saw that coming.
“It was just one day - boom,” said Mason, who has been in touch with several teammates over the past few weeks. “We talk, but the only thing we know is what we hear [on television] or read [in newspapers]. We don’t know any more than you guys do. It just bugs me that nothing is being said.

Curtis Joseph Loves Toronto

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from the Toronto Sun,

For most of his illustrious career, the man known as Cujo has been the top dog between the pipes.
But the veteran goalie, who has been a starter for most of his playing days, admits that he would accept a supporting role if it meant donning the blue and white again.
“To be back here again? Ya, absolutely I would, for sure,” former Maple Leaf Curtis Joseph revealed during a phone interview last night.
Leafs officials have publicly stated that they would like to find a backup to “push” incumbent Andrew Raycroft, who endured an inconsistent roller-coaster season en route to tying Ed Belfour’s franchise mark for victories with 37.

Trotz Dealing With Detour

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from the Winnipeg Sun,

So how’s your off-season going so far, Barry Trotz?
“We’ve always had a road map of how we wanted to build our hockey team and try to win a Stanley Cup,” Trotz, the only head coach the Nashville Predators have ever known, said yesterday.
“Well, right now we have a little detour. It doesn’t mean we’re not going to get back on the main highway.”
A little detour? That’s like calling the Grand Canyon a pothole.
Then again, the knee-jerk reaction hasn’t been part of Trotz’s repertoire—how do you think he’s lasted 10 years in the NHL?

Lowe’s Open For Shopping Season

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from the Edmonton Sun,

“In the last two or three days the trade talk has really heated up,” said the under-the-gun, man-on-the-run Lowe.
“We’re probably making more calls than we’re getting. I guess via this public forum I can announce we are open for business.
“I can’t wait to get there,” the hyper Mr. Lowe said of the Columbus gathering.

Possible Gerber Destinations

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,

While searching for a coach will be one of Murray’s top priorities, he will also try to deal G Martin Gerber before Friday’s draft. It’s believed before Muckler was fired, he was in talks with the Coyotes and Kings about a deal involving Gerber. The belief is the Coyotes are demanding that the Senators take D Derek Morris and his $3.9-million price tag for next season.
