Morning Line - Part 2

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

“I don’t see a team jumping ahead of them (Chicago) even after all of these changes.  I see them getting back to the West finals. From there, who knows?”

- Eddie Olczyk, NBC and Chicago TV analyst.  More on the Blackhawks from Kevin Allen of USA TODAY.

Montreal cuts continue

Blog: KK Hockey By The Upper Canadien

Five more players have been cut from Montreal Canadiens training camp, most notably forwards David Desharnais and Andreas Engqvist, and defenceman Mathei Carle. Carle, a former second round pick who had 15 points in 31 games last year for the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs, must now clear waivers. The Canadiens next play Thursday against Buffalo.

Morning Line

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

“I think any city like this, an industrial city, would present something. We have lakes here, where you can go, and do sightseeing, or to the mountains and walk around.

“We have been to the factory. It’s incredible, probably the biggest factory in Europe. They do a lot of steel, so it was an interesting trip, too. It’s a simple city, but everything we need we have here. And it’s very comfortable.”

All Redden’s Doing

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Larry Brooks of the NY Post,

Let’s be clear about this: Wade Redden earned yesterday’s demotion to the AHL for his two miserable seasons on Broadway after signing with the Rangers as a free agent out of Ottawa.

If he were making $3 million rather the average of $6.5 million that he is getting under his six-year, $39 million contract—which may represent the worst free-agent signing in the history of hard-cap pro sports—he still would have had those two miserable seasons and he still would be in Hartford this season instead of Manhattan.

Redden, who will report to the AHL Wolf Pack tomorrow after clearing waivers at noon yesterday, is not a cap casualty.

Rather, Redden is a casualty of his own deterioration as a player that ranged from a steady decline his final couple of seasons with the Senators to a complete collapse with the Rangers.

Is Jakub Kindl Ready To Play?

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

“The challenge for him is to find the confidence to be an NHL player,’’ Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. “There’s no question in my mind, or Kenny’s (general manager Holland) or (assistant GM) Jimmy Nill’s that he’s ready to play. But now, you got to decide you’re ready to play.

“He has a lot of things we think are important to play in the (NHL) on the back end—the ability to move the puck, he skates good. Now, the ball’s in his court. No one ahead of him is giving him a job. He’s fighting for ice time and more opportunity to play.’‘

Barring an injury on defense, Kindl will need to beat out young Jonathan Ericsson, who must rebound from a rough season, or veteran newcomer Ruslan Salei to play.

“It was kind of nice when I heard from people, ‘You should make the team,’ ” Kindl said. “On the other hand, I know I have to show everyone I can play in the NHL and I really want to be a part of the Detroit Red Wings.

Wild Need A Goalie

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Michael Russo of the Star Tribune,

If the Wild is interested in bringing in free agent Jose Theodore to replace injured Josh Harding, the longtime NHL goaltender would be interested in coming, his agent said Monday night.

Don Meehan, whose firm also represents Harding, said he spoke with Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher on Sunday about Theodore.

“When Chuck called to tell me Harding would be out for the season, Chuck said to me, ‘Look, I’ve got to make a move.’ And I said, ‘Keep me in the loop. Jose Theodore is available,’” Meehan said. “He said, ‘That’s certainly an interesting possibility.’

Darren Dreger tweeted this morning,

A number of teams seem interested in one of SJ’s goaltenders. Greiss is a likely target. Maybe Minny?

The Bolts Beat, 09/27/10: The Gang Talks Preseason Games, Cuts, Suspensions, Fantasy Hockey & More

Blog: KK Hockey By Jon Jordan

In the latest episode of The Bolts Beat, JJ and co-host Mike Corcoran cover the Lightning’s recent preseason road trip, roster moves made thereafter, NHL discipline issues (including the recent Nick Boynton/Blair Jones incident), predictions for how Tampa Bay’s final roster may end up, fantasy hockey strategy and Jon (of course) continues his New York Jets elation, much to the dismay of Mike and fellow contributor, Tampa Bay Lightning.com’s Mark Pukalo.

Predictions: Pacific Division

Blog: The Puck Stops Here By PuckStopsHere

Here is the second instalment of my pre-season predictions.  The Northwest Division is here

These predictions are a best guess at this point.  We know that injuries, slumps, streaks, trades etc. will occur and this will change things in unpredictable ways.  This is my best guess on the order of finish in the Pacific Division.

Habs top Panthers 6-2 as battle for roster spots continues

Blog: KK Hockey By The Upper Canadien

The Habs looked good on Monday night, putting on an offensive show in a 6-2 win over the Florida Panthers. Some veterans, Mike Cammalleri and Tomas Plekanec especially, seem to be rounding into form fairly quickly. Lars Eller? Not as fast - but remember, he was injured for two weeks, so his conditioning is likely not yet where it should be.

Then there’s Ryan White.

The Maxim Hockey List

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Steph Greegor of The Other Paper,

So I thought I’d take a moment to fill in my personal CBJ nominations for applicable categories to show our Blue Jacket boys a little love and attention. If you’re a CBJ fan—or not—feel free to override my selections—I’d love the input.

Top 20 reason to get “Pucked Up” for hockey season, according to Maxim magazine’s October issue

1. Kick-Ass fighting—Maxim listed New York Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard as one of the NHL’s “most intimidating players.” OK, but if any of you watched—or listened—to Saturday’s game against Pittsburgh, you know this: the CBJ is coming out swinging. Five brawls ranging from Jake Voracek’s first to veteran Rick Nash’s big scuffle against Evgeni Malkin, the Blue Jackets are in fighting form this season. So what are they yelling about before the fists fly? According to Defenseman Mike Commodore, there usually aren’t any “Yo Mama,” jokes.
