Stand by for the Dive. According to their deadline blockbuster acquisition, the returning Sheriff Scott Parker; Denver’s not out of the playoff chase.
“And I definitely wouldn’t count us out of the playoffs yet. We can definitely surprise some people.”
Parker didn’t have much more to say other than that, probably because he had to rest after such a complex combination of sentences. But, I’m anxious to see just how “the Sheriff” is going to contribute to that noble cause. You know…reaching the playoffs despite being 11 out of the 8 spot in March. We’ll be rooting for you Scott.
Also, here’s a shocker. We’ve long discussed the pathetic way the Denver organization has ignored its Quebec roots. No retired Nordique jerseys, no mention of Quebec heritage, etc, etc. Sobbing Dique apologist Adrian Dater addressed the issue in his weekly mailbag on Wednesday.
Adrian - Was there ever any consideration to incorporating an element of the old Nordiques logo in the Avalanche logo? Would the Avs ever consider wearing a special sweater with the fleur-de-lis for an anniversary game or something like that? I understand that there was a desire to create a new identity, but it was such an important history that it would be a shame not to acknowledge it at some point. Plus the Nords had the coolest uniforms to date. Thanks!
Dave - I don’t think the team ever has/had big plans to incorporate Nords stuff on their uniforms. The attitude of the new management, when the team came in 1995, was to totally start fresh. That meant everything from a name to the logos, to everything.
I’m not sure I share your enthusiasm for the old Nords logo, by the way. I always thought it looked a little too weird.
Just when I think I’m running out of material, girls like Adrian jump in with a helper. What a tool.
