Would You Make This Deal Involving Gustav Nyquist?

from Eric Duhatschek of The Athletic,

There are 17 days remaining before the trade deadline. Let’s try to find homes for as many wayward potential UFAs as we possibly can – and maybe even try to complete a hockey deal or two while we’re at it.

Gustav Nyquist to the Dallas Stars for Roope Hintz

...Jim Nill, the Dallas GM. Nill, knows Nyquist better than most GMs because he was still working for Detroit back in 2008 when the Red Wings originally drafted him. Again, not the deciding factor, but a factor nonetheless. Nill would know Nyquist’s strengths and weaknesses but if the goal is to add scoring to a team that has all of its offensive eggs mostly in one basket, Nyquist could be a useful addition – for the rest of this year and possibly beyond, depending upon the fit. Dallas could potentially offer picks to land Nyquist, but I suspect the Red Wings would rather have a warm body and Hintz, 49th overall in 2015, looks as if he’ll be an NHL regular; and could probably crack Detroit’s NHL lineup next year. That would be a Red Wings’ organizational priority at the deadline and preferable to adding picks for players that could be three or more years away.

many more ($$$) trying to complete a hockey deals...

A 70-point player for a big, inconsistent bottom-six winger who does nothing particularly well?

No thanks, I’ll take the picks.

The whole rest of this piece was really bad proposals. He suggested Mark Stone for a first and nothing else.

Yeah I think i’d rather have their 1st round pick. Haven’t heard much about this Hintz fella and his stats aren’t very inspiring.

It’s these type of proposals that have Holland saying “no thanks I’d rather re-sign him”. Nyquist could still have value to the Wings moving forward if he is willing to sign short term and reasonable cash. He’s been a good fit playing with Larkin. I don’t think Hintz’s upside is enough to overlook that.

Holland is right to START at a first rounder and hope to get 2nd out of someone if Nyquist isn’t in the long term plans. They don’t need more bottom 6 forwards. That will work itself out with time. Now if someone comes calling with a good defensive or even goalie prospect that might make sense.

Stone is one of top 3 Sens players. Does a bit of everything extremely well.  Price (Salary Negotiations ongoing)  will be high so Sens Goofy owner might let him go. I would think most Sens UFAs want out.

I would assume he wants picks, so the Wings are out of running.

Nyquist and Aby with 2nd round pick would make this fan happy, hell throw in Errorson.  Sens owner isn’t that dumb or is he??

I would want draft pick or picks which are easier to move to trade up this year. Or use the pick for a high end goalie pick.

use the pick for a high end goalie pick.

Not sure how many here follow college hockey, but the wings have a goalie , Filip Larrson, at the University of Denver. This is his freshman year. He had an injury to start the year, but he’s played really well since December.

He could be Jimmy’s replacement in 2-3 years.
