Working At A Reduced Rate

from Frank Seravalli of TSN,

The season is a few months shorter, less games, practices, travel, the players are taking less, the owners making less, so why would that not trickle down? What’s the story here?

The only people who can get the same pay while working significantly less is a politician.

You could say an organ-I-zation is going above and beyond
to pay all staff full salaries.

But it’s interesting that many orgs are choosing not to cut pay at all
and some are deferring rather than cutting. Others are ensuring lower paid
staff don’t face cuts.

Covering it is just journalism. These are entities worth usually several hundred million dollars. Owned by mega-millionaires or billionaires. That’s not a moral judgement. It’s just an acknowledgment that these are big and in some cases quite profitable businesses. Some that are in the best shape financially are not cutting salaries; some are. Same with those in shakier shape financially. I don’t worry about coaches making in some cases very high six or even above seven figures the way I would about an usher or concession worker. But it’s legit news - reporting facts.
