It seems clear that if Holland is going to move Howard it will not be a fire sale even if the Wings, as expected, drop out of the playoff hunt in the coming days.
“The last one-and-a-half seasons he’s been really good,” former NHLer and longtime analyst Ray Ferraro said. “I thought he was going to fade away but it seems like this is too long to be a blip.”
Would he take a chance on Howard as a trade deadline rental? For sure. As for moving forward, Ferraro said he’d be more interested in a two-year deal in the offseason as opposed to a three-year pact....
In a perfect world, the Red Wings maximize their return on a Howard trade and then re-sign him in the offseason, (Darren) Eliot added.
