The Yzerman-to-Detroit rumors and speculation heated up after he stepped down as Tampa Bay's GM before training camp, saying he wanted to spend more time with family, which has remained in Detroit. Yzerman has one year remaining on his Lightning contract, which he is fulfilling as a consultant.
Holland signed a two-year extension in April. I highly doubt he would step aside for another role in the organization. He wants to continue being a GM, whether here or elsewhere (he could become a candidate for Seattle).
I don't know what Red Wings ownership has in mind, but, technically, they're not allowed to speak with Yzerman since he's under contract with another organization.
My guess is Holland will continue as Red Wings GM in 2019-20. The club made a commitment to him and I think it will be honored.
It wouldn't surprise me if Yzerman returned to the Red Wings after this season in some sort of consultant capacity, with the understanding that he's Holland's heir apparent.
I think Jeff Blashill will get a contract extension if the team continues to be competitive, stay reasonably close to a playoff spot or at least .500, and more importantly, young players show progress.
If they opt to change, I believe assistant coach Dan Bylsma would be the leading candidate.
