Capgeek says the Detroit Red Wings have 13 million dirty dollars to spend.
Aaron Ward says the Wings are “out of the Shane Doan sweepstakes” because the “asking price is too high.”
The last thing we’ve heard from Ken Holland?
“We had a game plan heading into the summer,’’ Holland said. “Part of it was July 1, and we accomplished a lot of things on July 1. We tried to make additional moves. They haven’t happened.
“I still believe we got good depth in goal and good depth up front. The team is younger than it was two years ago. We got a lot of players that can grow into bigger roles.’‘
Your game plan has failed. July 1st was cosmetic compared to what you guaranteed you’d be doing this summer. You have a good #1 goalie and an unproven backup. You have decent depth up front.
And your blue line is mediocre at the very, drunken best.
Here are my demands: Aaron Ward, give us your sources. Or at least tell me a Wing official said that. Because I’d really like to know what “too expensive” is. 8 million is too expensive. 7 is not. 7.5 is negotiable. 3 years is too long, but it’s negotiable. 4 years is a no-go.
Kenny? If this is pure speculation on Ward’s part, you might want to get out there and say so. Because this thing is moving fast and you’re looking like absolute garbage.
Yes, PBR is flowing and much more is on tap. Much. More.
Cite your sources, Aaron. Named or otherwise. It’s kind of important.
And Kenny? If this is true it’s looking like you’re falling short when money’s the thing (and you have the money to spend, which is…hard to explain away, Kenny…it just is), instead of just the privilege of wearing the Winged Wheel.
It’s looking, Kenny, that you may not be the war-time consigliere we thought you were. We may have to change your name to Tom Hagen.
I’ll be waiting. And drinking.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
