Wanted: One Win

Needed: One Win Badly.

Paul here for IwoCPO.

A victory, two points, a blowout or a nail-biter, just put that W in the column.

Canes are playing for pride and the Wings should start playing like the playoffs start tomorrow.

Get the power play fixed, stop the defensive turnovers and all of the sudden, you have a team again.

The winning needs to start now….

... because it is a Live Blog bit****.

Best case scenario there would be a regulation win for Chicago.

Ha- I didn’t bother to see Nashville was playing tonight and well on their way to winning.  Still, what I said is not false, just ridiculously obvious.

Those two states have a huge hockey rivalry anyway.  They even play a high school hockey all-star game state versus state like Indiana and Kentucky do in basketball.

Holy balls. The real Wings finally escaped their captors. Looked like a team I used to know well. Great great effort 2 days early from an important anniversary in Red Wing history. 15 years now.Where the hell has the time gone?

Yes I guess they all are. Except this one is also head to head against Phoenix who is right ahead of them in the standings.

I missed the first period…

I think I saw different Wings team tonight.

None of the passing to the sideboards and head to the corner for puck control.
The forward crossing the blue line makes one pass and heads for the net, and the player receiving the pass shoots on net.  The chaos begins there since it was contrary to all the scouting reports, and preparation, to play the best franchise in the NHL.

What game were you watching? The Wings dominated most of the game, not just the third period.

There were several deflating moments when the Wings could have hung up their skates for the night, but they just kept charging forward.  In the 3rd period they owned the ice.

Coincidence that TPH was back?  I think not.

Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 03/25/12 at 07:51 AM ET

Nope, pretty sure not a coincidence.  The team possessed the puck somewhat like we’ve seen for the last 1,000 games, except for the most recent 10 where the puck was just ricocheting randomly around the rink until it stopped in the back of our net.

True it was Carolina, but they’ve been playing well the last 30 games.

Sometimes Pav keeps possession of the puck through illusion or magic, but it’s great to see again and what a difference it makes when you can maintain possession, at least enough to chuck it back behind the other team’s net instead of chasing back into your own zone.  What a dude.

I’m not arguing with any of the accolades that Zetterberg has been getting of late, but seriously, Filppula has been making plays all over the ice, and arguably has been the team’s best forward recently.  Had Cam Ward been anything less than amazing last night, Filppula easily could have had a six or seven point night.  He was a freakin’ beast last night.

That’s awesome. And true.  I still would have banked Hossa after his first month with the team and if Franzen would have stayed the next summer for whatever was left then good, if he had wanted to go the way of Samuellssson then OK, I could have lived with that.

Somehow if you could find comments from about end of October 2008 one night after Hossa nailed a shootout game winner you’d find my comments that said that.

Oddly, Franzen is the team leader in goals isn’t he?  Yet somehow seems Hudler-like invisible sometimes.

Prior to the game I remarked that Franzen was out hurt and that no one would notice.

However, I do not see that as a slam on Franzen, or anyone else, just a very true remark at the fact Filppula has finally broken out.

If you look at it in terms of points, Fil is top three.

Goals? Top three.  Assists, likewise.  He’s also a top three forward in +/-.

If you look at in terms of showing up every night, playing hard, doing the little things well, and just being an all around impact player, once again he is top three.
