hopslam. great stuff.
I read about a lady who when playing craps for only her second time didn’t roll a seven for 4 hours and 18 minutes, over 150 rolls.  Estimated table winnings were $180000.  By percentages a seven should be rolled every sixth roll.

So, anything can happen on one roll.

I’ll be here, sorting through link and searching somewhere to watch. I’ll fumble with the viruses, the ads and the Putin-sent bots. It will take me a while. I’ll miss the first teams revealed. Maybe I’ll only catch the last one or two.

No big deal, Detroit will be one of those.

Atta’ boy, Herm.  If you’re here, that’s some good luck right there.

In all seriousness, everyone should probably enjoy this.  I don’t know that DET will be in much of a position to draft Lafreniere or Lundell next season.

Ill be sending in all the good vibes, holding horseshoes and 4 leaf clovers, crossing all my fingers and toes. But I’m not watching that ridiculous dramafest.  No more 30 second closeups of Draper sweating bullets waiting to see how far over the table Bettman is bending the Wings this year.

The #1 pick? Hell, the Wings will need all of that stuff just to keep from ending up with the #7 pick.

Now that’s some funny stuff there, Hoot. I think you and I have about the same level of optimism when it comes to this lottery. But I’d love to be proved wrong.

guarantee the Wings get the #1

not happening while little gary remains CEO

ending up with the #7 pick.

This the more likely result.

This is closer to what i’ll be doing. I probably won’t know the outcome until I check KK tomorrow morning.

The draft lottery look up table is available to peruse, although the drawing is not live for some reason, but out of interest here are Detroit’s 95/1000 numbers along with everyone else.

Detroit’s highest odds are to pick 6th. But it doesn’t have the best odds to have any given pick.

Odds to pick & (team with best odds)
1st 9.5% (Avs 18.5)
2nd 9.6 (Avs 16.5)
3rd 9.7 (Avs 14.4)
4th 2.8 (Avs 50.6)
5th 26.1 (Devils 37.7)
6th 34.0 (Sabres 34.5)
7th 8.3 (Rangers 38.9)

The Wings and Kings share this statistical fact among the lowest 6 finishers.

Fact 2: the Wings have better odds to win the draft than pick 7th.
Fact 3: the Wings have better odds to pick 7th than 4th.

There are some bizarre facts about the NHL lottery for sure.  The bottom team has a better chance picking 4th or lower than getting a top 3.  The 4th team has a 2% chance of picking 4th and a 60% chance of picking 5th or 6th.

I’m not going to be greedy. I just want the Wings to pick in the top 2. LOL

You have to wonder if the Wings do drop would they be better served to trade out of the spot and pick the goalie later in the first round. He could honestly be a difference maker for the franchise.

FYI, the Wings have a good goalie prospect. He’s just 21 though.

Wings goalie prospect close to tying Cory Schneider’s NCAA tournament record

The Wings would be better served to try get the top rated prospect they can and not pick for position—especially goalie prospects.

Or combine some picks and move back into the 1st round to take him, you can’t have 100 assets to manage either.

It will be interesting to see Central Scouting’s final rankings (Sportsnet’s April rankings before the IHF World U18 Championship are out).

Central Scouting Final notes

Kaapo Kakko has become a 1b option at 49% to Hughes 51% according to at least one “NHL head scout.” source

Cozens, Byram, Turcotte, Zegras, and Dach are still good players that will help the Wings. That’s why tanking is so important…not just for the lottery odds, but also so you get your choice among tier 2 or 3 options.

+1

Been advocating for the Wings to trade up in the draft for a few years now. Last year they got lucky with quality players sliding down to them. Afraid Holland sees this as validation instead of a statistical fluke.

except that he actually says during his press conference he would be willing to move up using the 2nd and 3rd round pics. so….there’s that.

We’ll get the 6th pick.  Book it.
What a disaster this year end winning streak is going to turn out to be…
Two or three less wins and our odds would have looked a lot better.
We are going to have to defy the odds to move up now.

And Holland says he isn’t going anywhere.

Good times.
