Detroit came out of the gate slowly and the Blue Jackets stormed the Detroit goal and put one behind Howard early.
The Wings seemed to play better as the period played out and Tyler Bertuzzi scored to tie the game at 1-1.
Second verse same as the first- Columbus came out strong in the second period and on a 5 on 3, they scored to take a 2-1 lead.
The Wings had their own 5-3 pp later in the second, but could not get a shot on goal on the 5 on 3 and then the 5 on 4.
Then late in the period, Hronek tries to make a cross-ice pass, it hits the skate of Seth Jones and goes in to tie the game. 44 seconds later and Glendening scores a shorty so the Wings lead 3--2 after 40 minutes.
Columbus scored on the pp with just over 12 minutes left in the third period and the game is tied at three.
1:03 later, Columbus scores to take a 4-3 lead.
Columbus made it 5-3 with about 6 minutes left in regulation then Bertuzzi scored with Howard pulled to make it 5-4 with just about 3 minutes left but could not get the game tying goal.
