I wonder what Blash’s real voice sounds like? He might want to ditch the Babs impression these days.

Canada announces WJC camp invitees,

from TSN,

Notable players not on the list include forwards Barrett Hayton of the Arizona Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks rookie Kirby Dach, Joe Veleno from the Detroit Red Wings’ AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids and New York Islanders blueliner Noah Dobson. According to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, Veleno – who had two assists in five games last year for Canada – has an “excellent chance” of being released by the Red Wings at the end of camp.

more, McIsaac is invited.

I knew him growing up, I can assure you his voice sounded nothing like that.

The transformation has been…amazing.

Dana Wakiji of DetroitRedWings.com,

Wings coach Jeff Blashill agreed that earlier in the season, the Wings were doing a better job defensively.

“We got to be a team that defends well. We got to be a team that limits scoring opportunities,” Blashill said. “I thought through a large part of the early season we did that 5-on-5. We weren’t giving up many scoring chances 5-on-5, our special teams weren’t good enough early. The last little bit we’ve given up too many chances 5-on-5, we’ve given up too many rush chances.

“When we’re a good team, I think we’re spending time in the O-zone. I think our weak-side D is getting weak-side puck retrievals, we’re able to stay in the O-zone. We’re a team that has to score dirty. We haven’t scored much, when we do we have to score dirty, we have to score with chaos in front of the net, but we’re a pressure team without giving much up when we’re at our best.”

Cant wait until Yzerman has seen enough and we can finally hear the last of Blah-shill.

The Toronto game should have been his last as a Wing.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Monday reassigned goaltender Filip Larsson from the Grand Rapids Griffins to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye while the Griffins assigned forward Troy Loggins to Toledo and recalled forward Tyler Spezia from the Walleye.

In his first professional action, the 21-year-old Larsson shows a 2-5-0 record, a 4.01 goals against average and a 0.843 save percentage in seven games for the Griffins this season.

A 6-foot-2, 195-pound netminder, he was selected in the sixth round, 167th overall, of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by Detroit.

Larsson being sent to Toledo is not a good sign. He was the prospect that many here were sayimg was one of the Wings better goal tending prospects. There is supposed to be a good Russian goalie in the draft this year and I think a restock of the goal tender prospect pool should be high on the list for the Wings.

I really think the Wings need to clear house, not just here but even Grand Rapids. I have only been to a view GR games the last two seasons and I like Ben Simon but I am not sure he is qualified for the job. Maybe some of the folks that go to the GR games more often can shed better light on it. I watch the games online and they look almost as discombobulated as the wings.

With Bobrovsky signed to a seven-year deal in Florida, I wonder what it would take to pry Spencer Knight away from them? The kid’s tearing it up at Boston College (a 1.92 GAA and a .934 SV% through 13 games).

On the other hand, Bobrovsky has been worse than Howard or Bernier this year (with a 3.48 GAA and an .884 SV% through 21 games.) I’m guessing that’s not what they expected for $10M a year.

Goaltenders are fickle beasts. Better to have a surplus of good ones than not enough to fill the spots like they do now. They also can take awhile to develop. I’m hoping Larsson finds his way in Toledo. He was definitely their best prospect at the position.

Yzerman would be wise to stockpile more goalie prospects which is why acquiring Comrie was a good move and adding Pickard was a necessity. With Howard almost certainly gone after this season and Bernier next season don’t be shocked if they add yet another veteran via free agency or trade.
